So if I sell a vinyl record to someone for £4 it will cost the buyer £4.85? What is this nonsense? It won't be worth selling small items after Feb 4th. EBay are going to lose 1000s of sellers and buyers.

It certainly will impact sellers with lower value items, all you can do is hope that your items are well priced and niche enough to find a buyer willing to pay the asking price plus the extra 75p + 4% on top.

It’s mimicking what Vinted do, and it does seem buyers there are happy to pay the protection fee.
of course I think Vinted always had that policy so it is of course tough to apply a change like that, so only time will tell if it’s a wise move by eBay.

Yes, but I'm not clear about this: eBay says "the price you pay is what you see". Mmm..so do they mean that the extra 85p on my £4 single is included, so would only be used if there is a problem, or the buyer pays it anyway? Either way its bound to impact on items under a tenner i.e. the small seller. So they give with one hand and take away with the other?
The buyer will see the price inclusive of the buyer protection fee, it's a mandatory fee, not optional for the buyer.
eBay have taken away the 13% fee that private sellers paid and introduced a buyer fee instead.

I totally agree. I sell used Jigsaws at £3 each. No-one is going to pay nearly a £1 more. Postage costs are ridiculous for such an item as well.

I thought it was a flat fee of 75p per item and 4% of the item price up to £300 and then 2% from £300 to £4000 or something like that?

Answer please eBay!!
Unfortunately, and more's the pity, eBay do not venture forth to these boards to read these comments.

You may not be aware that the buyer fee is not applied to items purchased from eBay business sellers, there's no change there.

Let's not have many replies to this post. It is about the fiftieth post to simply say the same thing, over and over again.
The original poster can see this has been done to death on many of these other threads.
All you'll get now are other people who haven't bothered to find out what's going on.
The sensible posters are bored replying to the same inane comments ad infinitum, so they will steer clear, as you are adding nothing new.

wonder if they will put the 4% on the £3.00 or on £3.75????? Only makes 3p difference of course but all those 3p to e bay would add up....

It's 4% added to the item price plus 75p.
4% is not added to the 75p.

I sell my jigsaws for £3/4 usually (unless it is a bit less common) anything less than that is not worth my while because i sell them on the car boot for £2.50 without any problem. Local charity shops are charging £4/5 for them. The postage makes them too dear for most people hence why i sell only the odd ones. At least on here i can show them completed and people can see what they are getting. Even without SD coming in i will probably just not bother listing them come march when the car boots start again.

Round of applause here please. I'm amazed so many people consider a pound such a huge amount.

My maths makes it £4.91 not £4.85
Its 4% plus 75p
So £4 plus 4% =£4.16 + 75p = £4.91
Or the customer can buy from a business that doesn't have those extra charges and price will be £4.
