Hi everyone, I recently joined for like 1 month and I start selling as a private seller , and now eBay is asking me to provide national insurance number.
"New UK digital sales reporting legislation requires sellers with 30 or more sales, or who have sales exceeding £1740 in a calendar year, to register this information"
Solved! Go to Solution.

'This what happens when labour get im'
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The duty of ebay (and *every* other online selling service) to give financial details to HMRC is very far from being the fault of the UK govt.
Of whatever colour! Red or Blue.....
(ignore whatever reform UK/ the Dail Mail say on the subject.....)
The rules were put into place by the OECD, which is an organisation involving basically the whole civilised western world. The reason for it, is to try to get on top of worldwide online money-laundering.
Ok, HMRC are probably quite chuffed to be getting a glimpse into some previously opaque bank accounts 😎, but that wasn't actually the whole point...and it certainly isn't solely a UK/Labour Govt. thing...

Sorry to burts your bubble sweet bit I'm not a reform voter nor do I remember seeing this info through any Daily mail add that might go round feeds.
& the rest of that just proves the fact that our backstabbing politicians didn't get us out of the EU as was voted for.
If they really wanted to crack down on money laundering they can start with themselves 🙂

"Ok, HMRC are probably quite chuffed to be getting a glimpse into some previously opaque bank accounts" - HMRC have always had that opportunity, along with credit card statements etc if they had suspicions to warrant doing so.
@ev-530680 You are selling off personal possessions - it is apparent from your selling history. I know it is easy for me to say but you really don't have anything to worry about. The request is a standard request to meet the new laws that all digital platforms have to adhere to. Everyone, business or private seller, will be asked for the information once either 30 sales or approximately £1700 income is attained in a calendar year.

Hi Thanks for saying that. But yh some guy us in my inbox , calling me out because I need to " Explain my expensive dresses" apparently in his eyes . And according to him I better get all my receipts and bankstatement transactions for them ready.
Not getting they don't exist when bought cash years ago.
This is going to be the thing that most are worried about. If thats a random guys opinion from spying on my account. Others are going to feel the same. Like others I'm a bad hoarder & I'm trying to correct it , & clear out things, but I'm not selling them off for pittance if people will still pay reasonably for stuff. But yh I hit over the 1700 beggining of week. After a item I was about take down instantly sold & then I got that alert. Gutted as was one I had realised large size so still good to keep. Oh well guess we shall all see
Kind regards Jo

Those scam 'HMRC' texts have been doing the rounds for years, they are not related to giving your NINO to eBay. As a private seller your contact details are not displayed. Try being a business seller when your contact details are public. I get around 10 scam/phishing emails and texts a day on average together with around half a dozen phone calls per week. 2 texts today from couriers apparently needing to rearrange deliveries.
@ev-530680 No-one should be contacting you privately regarding this situation - simply ignore them and delete any further private messages without opening them.

Point 1, it was actually covered in the Daily Mail (i am an avid online reader) and Point 2, it has nothing to do with being in or out of the EU!

So What!??? What has you seeing something in the Daily Mail got to do with someone wrong lying assuming that I AM a Daily Mail reader?
I don't care what you are a Avid reader of

it could be someone was trying to be privately helpful! It is possible that HMRC might query why one person has so many expensive dresses in different sizes and if there were receipts it could be a start to sorting it out. Not that i ever keep them for clothes! That is the point of a private message, maybe they were doing the opposite to what the person thought and were trying to keep the advice private so as not to make it look as if they were accusing them of anything. Some people take offence at anything. I have had PMs before and found them useful and not negative.

you do realise that actually showing a private message could be against e bay policy and your response by the way was pretty nasty as well.

because you said you did not remember seeing it in the DM and i was saying that it was (in the money section).

I'm going to assume this response is too me. You've accidentally replied to someone else.
1. The person didn't just send me 1 inbox yesterday. There was 2 seperate messages from this person all at once. So bit eager to go on at someone multiple times
2. Selling dresses in smaller sizes my weight sky rocketed to 24stone!! I'm currently down to 15stone . There are only 2 bigger sized dresses on their that I've worn. But either way different clothes fit differently & don't run true to size always. People wear dresses . I also have tops & jackets listed. Some of the items gave photos of ne in them from over a decade ago.
3. If the person sending multiple same messages was really trying to help. Then why when I click back on Their profile are their post they've done. Top 1 is them complaining that Ebay has had to Warn Them from keep reporting Private Sellers as Businesses. Clearly if they spend all their time doing that behind sellers backs. Theu are NOT Caring

Sorry just seen your message. & Thankyou, I had already responded 😅 from the look of their account back they regularly report private sellers Ebay has warned them to refrain from it. & ok thankyou I will do. New to using this so yh
Kind regards Jo

No, i replied to the person i wanted to each time. My response number 162 was in response to 186 not one of yours.

" could be"? It either is or isn't? So which is it. As honestly No I don't know. As I said I don't really know much about how it works here.
Nasty or just blatantly honest. Considering they sent 2 seperate emails. The other one quite long and half way through became very accusing. I had actually responded nicely to it at first as I had missed what they put further down. But then I seen a second message. Same thing! & when I click on their profile back seeing as they're clearly clicking other people's scoping them out on who they can report, suprise suprise. They've been issued a warning to refrain from keep reporting private sellers lol. I wouldn't be suprised if they had already done that to me.
The fact that both you & them have a attitude of that a woman can't sell her own flipping dresses or its suspicious is the problem.
