Hi, to get around the error of not being able to list with custom postage, this week I have listed with SD, then of course I have to "get label" to get buyers address, but not then used it.
I was thinking that it will eventually be refunded, to me as I'm using "seller pays" but then this morning I noticed this in the FAQ below -
What if I don't want to use the prepaid label?

"I still don't see the point of not using the label"
Because eBay charges three or four times the postage cost if you use their label. Case in point: I've just sold an item that will cost me 87p to post. The "Simple Delivery" label costs £3.38, which is automatically charged to me.
They say unused labels will automatically be refunded, but I can see no evidence that this has happened on previous sales.

If you are being charged for the labels there is no automatic refund. You have to claim it and there are conditions.

That reclaim page is very well hidden.

You can only claim a refund if the alternative method you chose to use was a tracked service. You have to complete the form within 14 days of the sale.
All the details are available here:
If you selected ‘Seller pays’ and offered free postage on your listing, you'll need to fill out the Request a refund for Simple Delivery form for the label that wasn’t used. Make sure to send your request within 14 days of your item selling

Wouldn't bother with the "Request a refund for SD" as no-one has received a refund even after following the correct procedure. Surprised that mentors and agents are still referring to it when they know full well that nobody gets a refund when offering free postage

Just because you and a few others haven't received refunds doesn't mean no-one has. Several other posters have stated that they have received refunds. One thing that is for certain is that if you don't use the link provided then you definitely won't receive a refund.

No, I don't know that at all.
A (very) few members have complained in the forum that they have applied for refunds without success. When asked for further information, more often than not they either fail to respond, or it turns out they have sent the items without tracking, or postage was actually paid by the buyer anyway.
In the case of the member I was responding to, who plans to post for 87p, they would indeed be wasting their time.
You can send Large Letters with proof of posting and delivery from the Post Office etc. but small letters have no tracking whatsoever so applying for a refund for the unused SD label would fail.

OK, so you have imposed on me a service I do not want or need, charging me postage that is twice the cost of the item being sold, and I am wasting my time asking for a refund. And yet you claim it is not a scam.

It really isn't, I copied that section from eBay's guidance page called 'Simple Delivery', this one:

Actually that poster has not imposed anything on you.
It's also not a scam, it's Ebay's new business model for private seller postage.
