Hi, to get around the error of not being able to list with custom postage, this week I have listed with SD, then of course I have to "get label" to get buyers address, but not then used it.
I was thinking that it will eventually be refunded, to me as I'm using "seller pays" but then this morning I noticed this in the FAQ below -
What if I don't want to use the prepaid label?
Solved! Go to Solution.

Does not happen. I have offered free postage an alternative way and it is now over 50 days and I have received nothing despite promises to "escalate" the claim. I have claimed a refund 17 times and received nothing. Ebay must be making a lot from unused postage.

Because this thread is from the beginning of May, some of the information in it is out of date.
If you don't use the Simple Delivery label provided, you or your buyer will be refunded, depending on who paid for postage.
There are some criteria to meet though:
To process your refund, we'll verify the following:
If your request meets all these conditions, you'll receive a refund for the shipping cost.

No! Pointless sending this link as eBay are not actioning the refund request. Have done it about 15 times. Furthermore, no one else has received a refund. eBay seem to be gobbling up loads of money from unused postage labels. Look at trust pilot and you will see a one star rating and mostly because of the crass simple delivery system.

So if you send it untracked, you don’t get the refund?
before, Royal Mail delivery confirmation was for untracked parcels as well on ebay
(I once had one for a normal large letter too)
i dont know if they still do that and if they do would it count

Are you meeting the criteria that I posted though?
I don't take any notice of review sites, their results are always going to be skewed.

That's the latest update and part of the criteria for getting a refund for a SD label.

No, if you don't use their SD label you do not get a refund despite what the mentors and agents tell you. The link they send for getting a refund is pointless filling in as it gets ignored.
After 23 years I am using a different means of selling and others are following suit. There is not one person who likes the crass simple delivery system.

Ok thank you V
i just wondered because Marco on last weeks chat had said something like you probably wouldn’t get a refund if it was untracked but sounded unsure to me
its not right is it by any standard (just ebays I guess)
16-07-2025 6:29 PM
Have a theory that if you generate a label so you can change the tracking number to a new tracking number then ebays computer is seeing the generated label as being used = no refund even though you haven't used the label.
If you dont generate the label ebays computer sees it as unused and a refund should go through ok
Only a theory though

But you have to generate it to get the address I think
as for used or not I would have thought this is seen when scanned at drop off point
16-07-2025 6:33 PM
No, even if you don't generate the label and you use a different tracking number and email the buyer for his/her address you still don't get a refund even after 50 days.
16-07-2025 6:36 PM
No, if you email the buyer they will send you their address and you can send it without a label.
16-07-2025 6:42 PM
Just have to click on print invoices to get your buyers address
That's that theory out the widow them, its frustrating I know as have 3 of them now and their starting to mount up
16-07-2025 6:46 PM
Ok
well the answer maybe is to list it as a large parcel and do your own postage

You haven't answered my question about fulfilling the criteria to get a refund though, it would be great if we could work out where it's going wrong for you.
Looking at a couple of your completed listings you'e charging £2.72 postage via Simple Delivery, so you can't get a refund there. If you don't use the label and use your own postage then the buyer would eventually get the £2.72 refunded to them.

Hi
Only two of my items incurred postage costs for the buyer. All the rest were free postage paid for by me which meant each item cost £5.52 postage (£2.72 + £2.80). For a £15 item it means that ebay are actually getting 18% fees. These are the items that I have claimed a refund for using the link but they have all been ignored despite several phone calls and e-messages with agents. Furthermore, I know of nobody who has received a refund as promised by ebay. Some of my claims date back to the end of May which is way over the 30 day refund pledge not to mention the 14 day claim. I have also forwarded proof to ebay of the postage costs I have paid by sending scans of the receipts so everything possible has been done. I am thinking of becoming a business seller as I do not mind paying sellers fees like before but I am concerned that this hopeless SD system may soon include business selling. I have been selling on ebay now for 23 years and everything was fine until this ridiculous SD label fiasco. If you look at trustpilot you will see that the main reason for the 1 star rating is this SD method.

Hi
A good idea but how long before they cotton on to it.
17-07-2025 11:07 AM
You cannot opt out of the EVRI/SD method. You can send a different way but you will NOT be refunded. I have 17 outstanding claims. I think this is their way of getting money from the "free selling" that they are now advertising.

The only reason I might buy my own label is when I sell something valuable e.g. jewellery and it must go Special Delivery.
Can I presume that if I'm not going to use the label I can choose the cheapest label available regardless of whether it would have been suitable (if I had used it)?

OK this is the work round that an e-bay rep gave to me this week for a parcel 65cm
list it as 60cm, get your prepaid label and the address of the customer. Don't use the label, just take the parcel to the PO or wherever, pay the correct shipping and claim the prepaid label back here

I doubt even Rachel Reeves could think of a more ar"se about face of doing things
