DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

Has anyone else noticed lack of sales since the buyer protection update 4th february 2025. I used to sell quite a lot and virtually sold nothing since 4th Feb. Can anyone else relate to this and what can we do?

As soon as these changes were announced a lot of business sellers realised exactly what the result of ebay's action would be. We have been under no illusions. Eve Williams speaks of transformational changes and I find myself bracing for what may be to come. Not that we'll ever be asked about any changes before they happen.

It’s like a policy of self-destruction.Every new policy has a negative impact on us sellers.

I have been on ebay since 1999 and it was brilliant but now it is dead. Once my last postcards have sold (selling at a loss) I will not be using ebay again. All good things eventually come to an end. 😥

Totally agree with you, been on ebay since 1999 and very soon when my last two listings have ended with a sale (at a big loss)  I am off for good.  Good luck to all who stay.

Amen to that, I am having a closing down sale, and when I get rid of those
items, I am off, but if I run out of patience before then, I will donate
the left overs to charity!

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

Surely they can see how bad it has got for us my sales over the last 31 days is 50% down !

its got to be hitting Ebays pockets too, the whole buyers protection is a shambles it was never needed in the first place , i would always refund for lost parcels then claim off the delivery company .

Its got to be greed because the system worked and didn't need fixing.

When I converted to a Business account because of the buyer protection fee my sales completely died from sometimes dozens a day, to close to zero per week. eBay is totally destroyed for sellers.

Are there any specialist sites you can use. I’m trying to find them too for my books. There must be thousands if us experiencing this, where are the buyers going?

Good luck.

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

The problem is 100% of what I sell goes to charity, Greek Animal Rescue. The items are excellent quality and I sell for low cost because I would rather the animals benefit asap than things remain in storage I my house. A lot of my buyers have been very loyal and supportive, but it’s now unaffordable for them, basically they are paying twice on 99p items.
Very sad indeed. I spent over an hour trying to get info re HMRC taxation of sellers, as you know if you sell 30 items at 99p OR £1730 eBay have to report you to HMRC. Something brought in by Liebor. Again, effecting the most vulnerable in society. An utter disgrace. It truly makes me very angry.
So sorry for my rant. I wish you all the very best and good luck.

The best site I have found for selling books is AbeBooks especially for
rare titles!

This is going to work for some people! From my point of view though, where I have been selling mainly
LP's CD's and DVD's, perhaps I need to look elsewhere! Discogs has been
mentioned for starters, but I feel that wherever I end up it will be a
relief to get away from the contempt that ebay are treating private sellers!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nothing to do with"Liebor" whatsoever.

The duty for *all* online selling sites (not just ebay) to pass financial details over, has been brought in by the OECD (an organisation of basically the entire western world) in order to try and crack down on online money-laundering.

It's not some peculiarly British method of hurting the most vulnerable, regardless of what Reform UK /the Daily Mail may have told you.

I'm getting a bit fed up of people believing that EBAY a Global, American, deeply capitalist tech company is somehow taking orders from the UK govt.... like they'd listen to a word from the Labour party..!

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

I agree. I’ve been a member since 2005, but seriously selling to raise money for Greek Animal Rescue, the last 18 months or so. I like to think of myself as honest and up until a few months ago believed buyers to be genuine as I have had such wonderful, supportive and fantastic buyers. However, I recently sold a donated pair of Webber Brandy Goblets.. The buyer contacted me whilst on holiday and said they weren’t Webb Goblets, I immediately refunded the gentleman as well as sending a postal label to return them. Despite me contacting him on a number of occasions, he never returned them. I contacted eBay, who said they couldn’t help because I had refunded him. EBay eventually reimbursed my return postage label. As you can’t leave negative feedback for buyers, I was told by eBay, it was my fault and they couldn’t help me. Bearing in mind 100% of the purchase goes to GAR, I reimbursed the charity, there have been a couple of other people do that too. That’s what I found so ironic, the buyers have all ways been protected, it’s the sellers that are not. Just another statement to hide under your make money. Sorry for rant.

All the very best of luck to you.

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

I have had very similar experiences.EBay backs the buyer over the seller in all cases so the BPF is a nonsense, pure and simple.

Re: DROP IN SALES SINCE NEW BUYER PROTECTION 4TH FEB 2025

Oh dear, one of my recent posts has been edited out. It was not considered
right that I said to someone good luck if they decided to go to...... (and
at this point I repeated the name of the site they said) and this
apparently infringed ebay rules! Tut Tut, so much for free speech, looks
like ebay are getting very touchy. Perhaps they should stop and think that
if they played right by private sellers, they wouldn't even stop and think
about going anywhere else!!
