Consequence of refusing return when buyer says item does not fit

This should be an easy one for you experienced guys...but what is the consequence of refusing a return when the buyer says item does not fit. The item is as described and I have stated that I do not accept returns. My question is:- If I refuse and the buyer leaves neg feedback as a result - can I request that this be removed by Ebay? I will probably accept the return as is not a big issue - but I was just wondering where I stand as I am not obliged to honour her request. Thankyou all in advance.

Consequence of refusing return when buyer says item does not fit

As a private seller you can decline that return if the reason is 'does not fit'.

The buyer can't open another return citing a different reason.

If they leave negative feedback you can apply to have it removed if it breaches eBay policy.

It’s up to you if you want to accept a return but they will have to pay for the postage as “doesn’t fit” isn’t a valid reason if you described it correctly

whether eBay remove any negative feedback is anyone’s guess

You could tell them to sell it on

Has the buyer opened a case for return or not?

If not, and you *don't* accept the return informally, you may find the buyer opens a NAD/damaged return.

Then you have no choice in refunding *and* you get back a damaged item.

Accepting the return is the way to go. At least then you can have another bash at selling the item.

As far as neg feedback goes : chances of getting it removed are pretty slim, as it's 'the buyer's opinion of the sale'.

Yes - the buyer has opened a case for return, stating item does not fit as the reason. If I refuse then they cannot then change the reason for return to something else. Is just somewhat frustrating when you state that you do not accept returns yet seems the only 'trouble-free' option is to accept the return nonetheless. What is the point therefore? But thankyou for your comments...

Thanks Vyolla - I presume that leaving neg feedback for a private seller who does not accept returns under these circumstances is a breach of eBay policy...?

The feedback would have to mention not accepting the return.

Yes, even if the buyer is aware when they purchase the item, that 'returns are not accepted', many still ask to return if the item doesn't fit. It is frustrating, but if you refuse, you can end up with a disgruntled buyer...

Clothes sizes vary so much, and it is always disappointing when something doesn't fit - but it is also disappointing to have an item returned, losing the outward postage & packaging etc. It can feel like a small, private seller is expected to offer the same service as a branch of M&S...!
