Compulsory SD

I am trying to get my head around today's latest announcement of changes and need some help in understanding how this will affect me as a private seller.

I am currently in the process of selling off a large portion of my postcard collection. Many items I list B.I.N. at £2.99, postage free (or "seller pays" as it says when you list). Buyers pay £3.83 including BPF.

As a post card is under 100g and listed at under £10.00, currently SD does not apply and it costs me £0.87 to post.

Am I correct in understanding that as from 6th August there will be absolutely no exceptions to SD and therefore all my listings that state free postage (or seller pays) will now be subject to Simple Delivery at a charge of £2.70?

I cannot see a buyer paying this, nor will I as I will be making a loss on each item!

Am I really reading this wrong or is it the final end for me buying and selling mostly low value post cards on ebay?

No, I think you are wrong. The exceptions are still there. For now. Today.

"As a reminder, from 6 Aug, any eligible live listings that aren’t yet using Simple Delivery will switch to this delivery option."

I don't think they will be removing the current exemptions from the SD system.

What they are saying is that all items where sellers have still listed with their own postage will be subject to SD from the 6th.  In other words the only items that will not be subject to SD after that date will be those in the exempted categories. There will be no other way to do custom postage.

Quite what happens in the forced changeover is another matter.  Sellers with items that are exempted will need to check their listings as ebay will almost certainly pick those up as non SD and swap them over.
