Coming soon to eBay Mandatory Simple Delivery

Someone found the dates yesterday and posted them. Just thought it made sense to make it easier to find.

It's in the Help Section under Opt out

Simple Delivery will be the only listing option as of 15th April and they will start adjusting current listings from the 7th April.

So at least we know where the Iceberg is now.

And I have just noticed another price hike:

I used to use Royal Mail via Packlink for items weighing up to 250g, width 2.5cm at a cost of £1.90. I am now being forced to use Evri at £2.70.

Ebay are adding on roughly 60p to a £1 to every postage. I pay now £3.45 for Royal Mail small parcel upto 2kg. Ebay are charging £4.45 for a 61cm x 46cm x 46cm medium parcel size upto 2kg. There is no small parcel size with simple delivery

Someone else has posted in today’s chat about a similar issue where SD has been applied automatically to a sale made on a business account. It’s been passed to the tech team for investigation.
Lots of other issues cropping up on chat today including what appears to be misinformation stating that POs will accept incorrect labels as a result of SD…?

I have read it myself through Ebay message that the carriers will accept a postage label if incorrect size and weight if it is based on Ebays calculation but won't accept it on the sellers  wrong calculation

'....wouldn’t put it past eBay to force more control on us?'

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not now I wouldn't, no....

Until very recently, everything I have read about the various 'new rules', over the last few months, I have read with a logical viewpoint.

I've tried to see the 'good' sides and the useful sides of the changes.

Or at least the cold 'they are simply doing it for profit' view (rather than the emotional 'they hate us all and just want to upset us!' view)

I've also assumed that a bit of business logic would make ebay take customer feedback into account .And after such a huge negative reaction, they would 'soften' things down a bit to make them more palatable and keep more customers (and hence more profits).

Er...no. That didn't happen

Well, I think I've been wrong about the intentions of what they were doing to private sellers: Now I don't believe they care if we stay or go.

If we stay until we can't stand it anymore, they'll make money from us for as long as possible, obviously.

But if we go, they'll be right on track for turning ebay into a 'high-end luxury goods' site - as Jamie Ianononon-thingy wants. (second hand stuff private sellers are a long way from being percieved as Luxury or High-end!)

So, with reference to *business* sellers being forced into stupid new rules?

Business sellers of low-cost *un-luxury* items may have to watch out soon....... could be their turn next.

Yes, eBay appear to have made that statement without checking the facts with POs & RM.

Examples are already coming to light where these have been refused over the counter by PO staff.

imagine me, 80% of my items are thin around 12-15g and easily get sent in a
small padded envelope with an 85p second class stamp! Most items are around
£5 and now with 'buyer protection' are £6 and now with SD hiked up to
almost £9!

BUT the post office are not the actual carriers they are just the third party inbetweeners (and do a great job i may add).  It is okay the chat guys and gals saying that they have to but as someone asked - has an agreement been reached with them as well as RM?  Actually i found the chat  today particularly unhelpful, just spouting off the board like robots.

with over 7k of sales and over 3k of listings, it must be worth you becoming a business seller, it must be a full time job.

the staff in our main post office have said it is a nightmare this simple delivery because people are going in with parcels with the wrong cost on them so are being rejected .Our little post office just down the road from us is an independent privately run postoffice and only get commission they are are not salaried so they are getting no money now for dealing with the simple delivery parcels so they will be having to close at this rate .

Marco in the ebay chat today said post offices have to accept the simple delivery packages, even if the wrong label has been used and if they don't seller's are supposed to report them to ebay so they can take action against the post office(s).

How does the Post Office clerk differentiate between a Ebay predicted incorrect weight and size label and a seller provided weight and size incorrect label

Yes but how will the Post Office person know that. I have been in the Post Office many times when people have the wrong size , weight and price

From what I can gather eBay have agreed with the couriers that it can be a free for all. If the parcel size and weight is wrong, the seller won’t be charged extra. No doubt that will take a while to become reliable, early on it could be a mess until all parties get used to it.

I don't know maybe they'll just reject any ebay packages with the wrong postage label on.
