Coming soon to eBay Mandatory Simple Delivery

Someone found the dates yesterday and posted them. Just thought it made sense to make it easier to find.

It's in the Help Section under Opt out

Simple Delivery will be the only listing option as of 15th April and they will start adjusting current listings from the 7th April.

So at least we know where the Iceberg is now.

A user called @akemp1 posted about this earlier. They broke it down in one of their posts and suggest we report them to the CMA.

Their logic is sound.

Thanks but in classic internet acronyms IANAL so TINLA it's just a suspicion that the SD feels so wrong because it might be market abuse by the dominant online second hand marketplace forcing their unwanted and overpriced postage service upon buyers (and sellers offering free postage).

It needs proper investigation by those qualified and experienced in competition law such as the CMA if we can get their attention.

Re: Coming soon to eBay Mandatory Simple Delivery

There are a lot of charity shops that send perfectly good stuff to landfill. You have to be very careful about who you donate to nowadays.

In the same position as you, with around 400 listings over two accounts it will take me an age to add weights/sizes to everything, but Ebay CS have advised that this is what I should do. I have told them I simply do not have time to do it.

I've popped my Time Away settings on for a month to start 7th April to see how this pans out and I can then decide if I want to continue with it.

I wish they'd have made this optional.

After 20+ years of selling I just find this roll out the most baffling yet. The fact that they've labelled it "Simple Delivery" to make it sound like something that will benefit sellers is laughable. Most Sellers who have been doing this for some time can see it's a ploy to make more money, and it's a bit sad really that they think they can pull the wool over our eyes.

Re: Coming soon to eBay Mandatory Simple Delivery

I think if Ebay are purchasing the label I would guess it's up to them to claim with Royal Mail and losEVRIparcel for any lost/damaged items, but as you say, I would not trust them with this.

Re: Coming soon to eBay Mandatory Simple Delivery

They have confirmed any lost or damaged in  transit items will be taken care of by them and buyer and seller refunded if they paid post

no clarification if this includes breakable and other restricted items though (for seller, cos buyer will always be refunded)

but if eBay allow restricted items to be sent ..eBay know what’s being sent with x carrier…don’t they bear responsibility for breakables etc? If they recommend say evri to carry your glass vase which evri does not pay compensation for ??

Re: Coming soon to eBay Mandatory Simple Delivery

In a similar vein, I sell my surplus low value DVDs at just £2, with postage extra at £2.10 for a large letter (for which I can post 2 DVDs in the same large letter weight band), which reduces to £2 after the Royal Mail price increase! I use my own postage stamps as I have a large number to use, and always obtain a proof of posting in case of loss. After the imposition of eBay Simple Postage, each DVD will cost £2.70 to post - hardly a saving for the buyer but a substantial increase.
Last night I delisted ALL of my items regardless of whether they are postage extra or free postage because I can't trust eBay's 'Simple' postage pricing option. After 24 years as a buyer and seller, and almost 6000 feedbacks, it will be bye bye eBay if they don't see sense and allow us to decide our own postage as an option.

Re: Coming soon to eBay Mandatory Simple Delivery

Yes they did say that but they say a lot of things which turn out to be incorrect!  If the PO have not actually signed an agreement with RM to accept undercosted parcels then e bay can do nothing.  RM and PO are two different entities.

Re: Coming soon to eBay Mandatory Simple Delivery

well they usually know very little about anything else (mainly because they are not told themselves i should imagine) so why would he know anything about this.  I should think they get the usual standard c.ap to dish out and hope that people will accept it.

Re: Coming soon to eBay Mandatory Simple Delivery

I live at a remote location on Bodmin Moor with no drop off point within 5 miles so have always used Royal Mail collection service. I have just created a listing and spent an hour trying to opt out of simple delivery but it seems I can no longer do this. if this is correct it is TOTALLY BONKERS but nothing less than I would expect from eBay,

Re: Coming soon to eBay Mandatory Simple Delivery

The item I sent today, the post office staff insisted on weighing and measuring it despite the simple delivery QR code, so it isn't going to be as straightforward if the amount of postage paid is insufficient.

Re: Coming soon to eBay Mandatory Simple Delivery

I have added a warning to my breakable listings like this

*This item is excluded from Evri compensation. Although I will pack it very well, Evri may still smash it with rough handling. Please choose Royal Mail*

But will they know which is which of the postage options?

Re: Coming soon to eBay Mandatory Simple Delivery

I just tried this for the first time. The estimated weight was too low and there was no option for a small (shoe box sized) parcel. So the options were, accept eBay's recommendation with knowingly underpaid postage, or select the correct weight but the parcel size is larger than needed and so more expensive. At the moment you can still override Dumb Delivery, but not for much longer.

Re: Coming soon to eBay Mandatory Simple Delivery

The day that ALL post offices follow the same rules will be a day for celebration. There are vast differences in the interpretation of rules - some won't allow commemorative stamps  to be used on dispatched, some won't provide a proof of posting, some will only accept a pre-completed bulk proof of posting. So the chances of a uniform approach to incorrectly labelled eBay items is very unlikely!

A big jump from 2kg to 15. Who's going to pay £7.19 for just over 2kg?

happening.

Re: Coming soon to eBay Mandatory Simple Delivery

If the label they send you is wrong there should be a provision for you to remedy it by clicking a link and adding the correct weight and size, then the incorrect label gets cancelled and a new label is generated, and then the price is then amended to the correct one.

This will not change the fact that it costs more than going direct to royal mail etc but at least it will enable you to have the correct label for your parcel.

Problem is this may be too obvious for them.

Buyers only get to choose between 'Standard' and 'Express' delivery, not the actual carrier, so that isn't going to work

There is supposed to be an 'Up to 10kg' weight band but it isn't appearing at present.

Re: Coming soon to eBay Mandatory Simple Delivery

On my simple delivery 2kg- 15kg is over £10, there is no 2kg -5kg or 5kg -10kg . I used to send stuff for £6.65 using Royal Mail Tracked 48 upto 5kg quite regular but now selling stuff over 2kg is a ridiculous price
