Collection time limit?

I've sold an item to someone who'll be travelling to the UK in about 6 weeks to collect it, which I'm happy with & they've done the buy it now and have the QR code, is there a time limit they have to collect within or is that fine as long as I'm happy to wait? We've arranged for early June & that's fine for me but just don't want ebay cancelling the order thinking we haven't gone ahead.

Assuming they have paid ebay will not cancel the sale.

You will be paid by ebay before they collect, but the only issue might be that they won't be able to use the money back guarantee if necessary.

Oh really I thought from looking at the terms I would only get paid once
the QR code is scanned to say they've received it? I'm more than happy to
hold the items because it was all arranged upfront, but the big red
exclamation mark on the account makes me nervous that I must do something.

We are currently asking for clarification as to whether you would wait 14, 21, or 30 days,  but payment is not only triggered by the collection code.

Ok, will be good to find out as its an expensive item but I don't want
either myself or my buyer to lose out and it to be refunded as they are
travelling a long way to collect it in June

Thank you, did you get any clarification at all? I'm just worried about the order being cancelled by ebay before collection takes place in June, payment is currently pending release & held awaiting the QR code scan to show collection, it doesn't look like it will be paid to me until the code is scanned so it doesn't look like payment will be triggered before that but in which case this may mean that there is a limit for holding funds which is shorter than the period in which collection will take place - if its 30 days from purchase only when collection is June

Best to ask eBay Customer Services about this one,  hopefully they can answer as these are new rules for all of us, and some aspects are not clearly set out,  or written in any eBay announcement.

This is the easiest and quickest way to contact eBay Customer Services, for a Call Back option.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/eua?id=5275&mkevt=1&mkpid

Lines open 8 a.m. - 10 p.m. on weekdays

9 a.m. - 6 p.m. on weekends.

Automated agents will be available on chat outside of the above hours.

I recommend contacting CS first thing in the morning as there's more chance of Dublin answering.

No clarification yet.

To be honest, I think your best course of action is to cancel and then relist when the buyer can collect.

Why re-list? Buyer should now have seller's address ...

Because waiting 6 weeks for collection could cause issues for buyer and seller.  Better to start from scratch when the buyer can collect.

Is it possible for buyer to give you the qr number and input that now? Or is that against any rules?

It's not against any rules but the buyer than has absolutely no protection so they shouldn't do it.

Ebay's systems are simply not geared up for such a long collection timeframe.

I wouldn't want to do that I'm happy to wait until they collect as they are
travelling from the other side of the world & they asked first before
purchase if it would be ok

Thank you Tressygirl I did that & got hold of someone who confirmed that it
was all OK no time limit & no punishment for me based on slow collection

I've spoken to Ebay and they've said there is no time limit & funds won't
be received until the QR code is scanned which is fine for me I'm relieved
there is no time limit

Sorry but that from ebay is nonsense.

You must do what you think best.

'I've spoken to Ebay and they've said there is no time limit'

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry to be pessimistic, but it's hard to believe what ebay CS  say much of the time ☹️

Many examples of complete fabrication have been seen on these boards.

Ebay CS like to get callers off the phone as fast as possible (to meet their 'calls answered within the *however long* metric)

Ebay CS like to say whatever the caller wants to hear (in order for the caller to tick the *best* box in the after call survey, if they are given one....)

And if ebay CS don't know the answer they appear to have free reign in just making up whatever they want/think it *ought* to be.

....... I know this all sounds totally unbelievable from a Global Tech company, but it is true.🙁

Don't believe them.

In your case I would do what papso suggests: cancel the whole thing,....then relist as buy-it-now, they re-buy and they collect all at the same time...from your driveway/house!

Concerning but they looked up the actual item before commenting so seems
pointless to do that & not give the right advice? They didn't rush me off
the phone, Well think I'm going to leave it for the time being, if they
cancel it I'll relist but doesn't seem much point unless there becomes a
need for it, I'm assuming I'll get a warning of them cancelling it if it
happens & meanwhile the money is in pending. Its a lot of money so I don't
want to mess with it, I'm keeping an eye on things. I'll update if
something changes & their advice is untrue 🙂

If the buyer isn't collecting until June you've loads of time to just sit back and wait and see what happens, if anything.

If the payment ends up getting refunded or the QR code is 'out of date' when the buyer comes to collect, simple relist the item and they they can re-purchase it and get a new code to give you.

Collection time limit?

FYI:  ebay Customer Service confirmed that there is not time limit on collection of an item and no time limit or expiry date on the collection code to work, to receive payment.  They have also emailed the same to avoid any doubt, obtained to reassure the seller:

In regards to the local pick-up you will be doing, the collection code will not expire and the funds will be held until we confirm collection. There is no time limit on the collection.

Kind regards,
