Just had a sale where the item is too big and fragile to send via courier, so had set listing to collection only, the buyer has been and gone, so I was left to mark the order as collected, but up popped a message I haven't seen before, asking me to "Enter the buyer's 6-digit code, located in their confirmation email".... wut?
When did they introduce this feature? My previous Collection Only sale didn't ask me for this, I haven't seen any announcements, the only recent one I see is about changes to payments for collection only items, but nothing about a new collection code.... it'd be great to know about these things before hand!

I'm another long term eBayer who was unaware of this rule, don't remember it being mentioned previously. Buyer collected £200 item yesterday and not until the message popped up later on my account did I realise that I should have asked for a code. It's gone from being 'buyer beware' to 'seller beware', but of course if you don't know better you're in the mindset of thinking, well he's paid already so no problem handing it over.
He's not responding to messages so will just have to hope..

eBay used to allow cash on collection, so being in a potential position of having to prove that the buyer had indeed collected their item was never an issue. The payment couldn't be reversed.
It would be good if eBay could have a message appear when a collection in person listing it set up directing the seller to the guidance page featuring the code info.

Hi
Hopefully you may be able to help me, I have sold a chair and stool and on the original listing I stated preferred collection but will post if required the buyer has collected, therefore clicking the "postage & collection button" Great! but eBay will not allow me to mark the item as collected. I have even spoken to the automated system, that said get in writing via message that the item has been collected, my customer kindly has done this yet eBay will not allow me to mark the order as collected. Now each time I log in big RED letters state, "You are 20 days behind sending"
I honestly do not know what to do. Have you ever had this issue? I did request the original collection code from my customer but they had no idea how to access this and sent a copy of my original listing.
Can anyone offer advise, Please.
With advance appreciation, Lucy.

Oh dear! CS told you to get it in writing that the item has been collected! Sorry, that is wrong, shame they then didn't tell you to whom you present this ' evidence'.
Nope that is not the answer, for a collection, only a code presented to the seller confirms collection. There is no other acceptable method!
Your buyer seems to wish to help, just doesn't know , it seems, where to look. Ask them to look through their eBay messages, their email even Spam, and the order details for the item, it should be there.
If they still cannot find it, those messages to ' dispatch' will soon stop, and your payout may be delayed a little longer than norm.
For any future collection items, personally I would send the buyer a polite message reminding them to bring that 6 digit code, as you cannot release the item without it.

Bloody hell. And they really think buyers are going to bother to do that?

lf they don't give the seller the code the seller should not give them the goods.
It's been this way for about 12 months, check the date this thread was started.

In the buyer isn't able to provide the collection code to confirm collection then the payment should be released automatically 14 days after the date of order. As the item was purchased on 23rd September you should, therefore, receive the payment on 7th October.
