Hi
Looking for some advice on a pick-up collection only listing I had.
The buyer came to collect but decided that the item was not exactly what they wanted.
I didn’t receive a code and I asked them to cancel the ‘purchase’. They did this with the reason ‘Wrong payment information’ (odd, but perhaps there was no other acceptable reason).
The issue I have is if I accept the cancellation it suggests that eBay will refund them from my ebay balance. Obviously I did not get paid so I’m a bit worried that I might end up refunding by mistake.
Thanks in advance for any advice?

The payment the buyer made to ebay has perhaps not cleared yet. This is why they would take it from your available balance and you would get the original payment once cleared. It seems unfair I agree.

Accept the cancellation and refund the buyer.
What usually happens is that Ebay will refund the buyer from your funds and then they will release the buyer's payment to you.
You will be out of pocket - that is the way the system works - but only for a short while.

Any refunds are taken from the cleared balance. Once the refund is made then the original payment will be released to you. Admittedly it may it seem a bit of an odd way of doing things but it will work out correctly.

Thanks everyone for your responses.
I now understand how it works.
