What happens when Rpyal mail decides to charge a buyer upon delivery for more postage. The buyer agrees to it and pays. Who is respinsible for the extra charge. I sent an item large letter 35x25x2.5. I meesured it out as I always do. It was actually smaller than the allowed size foir a large letter. When deliverd royal mail said NO it's a small pacakge and charged the buyer £3.50. NOW the buyer wants me to refund her the £3.50. I myself would have rejected it and had Royal mail send it back. I do not feel I am responsible for the extra charge . The buyer should have rejected it. So what do you guys think Thank yoing you in advance

Even a mm out will make a difference and don't forget, the weight limit for large letter is 750g. If there's any chance at all that you got it wrong you should refund the buyer. Otherwise maybe a compromise of paying half each.

If the buyer had rejected the charge and the parcel was not delivered as a result, they could have made a claim for item not received and you would have had to refund them.
You may or may not have got your item back.
What was the item, was it boxed and did it fall freely through the large letter sized slot?

You should pay the extra charge, it is down to you to get the item to the buyer and to make sure the postage is enough to cover that.
It sounds like what ever you posted may have shifted in what I assume was a padded envelope, this then pushed it over into small parcel territory.
I believe if the buyer refused the delivery they would lose their cover under the EBay Money Back Guarantee, then if the parcel got lost coming back to you they wouldn't have the item or their money.
I have been on both sides of this situation before as buyer and seller. As seller as soon as the buyer got in contact with me I refunded what they had to pay to receive the item. As a buyer I have contacted the seller and sent photos of the card I received for the extra charge and the parcel once I collected it with the label Royal Mail put on it showing it hasn't had enough postage paid. They then refunded me no problem and I left them positive feedback.
It is feedback you need to be aware of, if after they have contacted you to let you know they had to pay an extra charge to receive it and you don't do anything they are well within their rights to leave you negative feed back.

Out of interest, what was the item?
The king size duvet and 2 pillowcases recently sold only had £2 postage on it and this would be a small parcel price. Unless you subsidised the postage.

I use K size padded envelopes. I always turn over the one side, secure with sellotape and close the envelope at the top so that the package does not exceed 45cm. x 35cm. Couple of weeks ago a customer was asked to pay excess postage £3.50! I did issue the refund but asked my buyer to challenge the charge as although the envelope was shown as 'K' it had been taped down to qualify as a small parcel. I never heard anything else from her so assume she just pocketed the refund.
I put a blank sticker over the K now and write 45 x 35cm. on it!

What service did you use?
Royal mail large letter have a maximum depth of 25 mm.
Asking as you have mentioned 35mm. Posted via Royal Mail that would be small packet.

Hi, I used RM 48 Tracked. This was a lightweight jacket sent as a small parcel, weight around 500g

Glad to see you refunded your buyer - exactly the right thing to do - as a suggestion it might be worth considering PIP boxes for large letters and small parcels - as long as they close and do not bulge you know they will be accepted as to size

Wow you have a real bad attitude - read the question - Here's the answer - you owed the buyer the extra postage because you packaged the item incorrectly / was too big - I guess you were trying to save a few pennies by squeezing something too big into a small package - so you deserve to pay the penalty - the solution is simple package it properly and pay the correct postage
Good enough answer for you - entitled springs to mind !

Might be worth buying one of these Royal Mail sizing guides
for letters and large letter guide. I got mine a while ago from a eBay seller .

I guess you forgot what questions you asked - no wonder you got the postage wrong - so to simplify it for you - I will answer each question you made and have copied them here for you to understand -
What happens when Rpyal mail decides to charge a buyer upon delivery for more postage.
You pay the buyer the amount charged and some compensation and apologise profusely for your error
Who is respinsible for the extra charge.
100% you are responsible !
So what do you guys think

I sent an item large letter 35x25x2.5.
As your question was not about packaging why mention it ?
As for looking at your account - you need to take it out of the public domain if you want to keep it private ?
You should be aware that RM now have installed new machinery that scans sizes as they pass through sorting so you can no longer get away with cheating the system - hence the indignation you readily show
