If I sell something for £1 is it true that the seller is charged a 75p flat fee? That is so off putting as a buyer and seller.
If I send an item via Royal Mail's untracked service when will I get paid - will it be 48 hours after the estimated delivery date.
These changes are rubbish for everyone. Surely they will impact sales adversely.

I'm going to do the same tomorrow.
Every Sunday I buy multiple comics from the same seller. He then sends me an invoice with combined postage - and we're both happy bunnies. Today he was unable to send me an invoice, neither can I request a new total / invoice at my end - the link has disappeared.
I explained that I thought this was probably because of the introduction of buyer fees - I got the impression he'd no idea about them. I didn't feel like explaining, I wasn't confident I'd be able to properly!
Has anybody else encountered this same issue? Combined postage and invoices?

I buy a lot from ebay, or did. Not a single person I've bought from, or have attempted to buy from, knows or understands about the fees or how they work. I buy items that mainly need refurbishment. Now I'm having to pay to buy and because everything is price sensitive, I'm having to absorb the fees at the other end too. I've never sent an invoice but i refund postage on multiple items. The whole system is now floored, maybe they'll be improvements but my feeling is, all the time they're making more money, that'll be their only concern.

My seller has refunded me the difference now, but the amount he said he refunded was £1.17 less than I actually received. Why? Because I've been refunded a portion of the buyer fees! This is crazy stuff, what a mess.
Wait for this, his listings for next Sunday display a mixture of items at his price and items with the buyer fee added. What on earth?
Ebay will do a 180 on this eventually, I'd be surprised if they don't.
Do you remember the mandatory free postage shambles? I told them it wouldn't work, that sales would suffer - I was proved right and after 3 months they caved.

The BPF has been rolled out category by category in a very un-even fashion.
Even getting all categories covered seems to have been a just a big a mess as the BPF itself......
(I seriously hope you're right, that they cave on this after a while. But I'm pretty pessimistic on that ☹️)

Can someone explain to me something please? If you submit an offer on an item, let's say £100. How come the seller doesn't get the offer of £100? They get the £100 offer less the buyers fee, so they end up receiving an offer for around £95. Tell me that's not a selling fee. To submit an actual offer of £100 you have to go in and out of the fees break down and keep on adjusting your offer until you finally get to the £100. I mean, come on. What an absolute shambles.

In this scenario I can't think of anything else it could be called except a seller fee.

Yes, it's definitely going to hit sellers - but it's no joke for buyers absorbing something like 85p to each and every item they buy in a multiple item transaction. A recent transaction of mine for 8 comics would have added about £6.50 to a £35 deal. Fortunately it was a business seller - but you get the idea!

I’ve just sold an item and the date I can withdraw my funds is in 2 weeks. Why do I have to be responsible for the courier service doing or not doing their job correctly. I would withdraw from eBay but I have over 200 sales up.
I really feel like I’m being penalised for selling on eBay. Every item I have is on promo and I’m selling hardly anything. What frustrates me, eBay is advertising on TV/radio as “Free to sell”
What about sellers who have built up their small business for years? I sell ALL NEW items, yet I am paying so much in fees along with free postage.
Hopefully everything will pan out soon or another site pops up with better prices!

Agreed, both sellers and buyers are suffering due to ebay's greed.
25-02-2025 9:47 PM
Work this out then. You win something at auction with your bid of £10, yet, the seller receives £8.92. How is that not a selling fee?
25-02-2025 10:16 PM
I have to say that these new fees and payment system/costs are really off putting.I doubt i'll be buying or selling as often on ebay now
25-02-2025 10:22 PM
Also you are relying on a buyer to leave feedback and you have to send everything fully tracked so that you know it's arrived.Buyers won't pay £3 plus postal charges on a £4 sale so they shop elsewhere.
25-02-2025 10:29 PM
Simple facts are. Put an item up for 'buy it now' and the fees go on top. Put it up for 'auction' and the fees are taken out of the selling price. Double standards?
25-02-2025 10:37 PM
Have you looked at other options?
There is one I have never heard of until recently, that offers cash back on purchases...uk seller based. BUY with an ON in front of it dot ... com ... all new Items. Hope that makes sense...
25-02-2025 10:51 PM
I understand Mike, I've been selling on eBay since 2003... 🙄😅
BUT the reality is that the seller sells at £10 and the buyer pays more than they expected - £11.15 - but the seller receives exactly the same monies - right? Think it through?
The real problem is that when the buyer sees a weirdly inflated price - some odd amount like £12.18 - he's far less likely to buy. Then there's a knock-on effect which deters the buyer and in turn the seller is forced to consider lowering his prices.
Correct?
25-02-2025 10:52 PM
Exactly - spot on.
25-02-2025 10:54 PM
Adding 75p on a £1 item is grotesque at best IMO
shats the thinking behind the nonsense ?
sorry I sound like a broken record
why couldn’t they just graduate the last fee and percentage on top in price bands
not very clever eBay
25-02-2025 11:03 PM
That's right, and it's a crippler for lower price items.
There are many 1000s of items on eBay at these lower price points - and in so many categories.
Where would we start? Craft accessories, button and bows, postcards etc etc.
I really, seriously, don't think eBay has given this any kind of proper consideration.

Not exactly sure you've understood my point but hey ho. Either way, the system is deeply flawed and just isn't working. Well, not for me anyway.

Sorry lost time to edit spellos and re the fee words can’t remember what I was saying but u get the gist lol
