Buyer Sent Cancellation Request After I Accepted Offer - EBay Wants To Return Balance & Card

Hi folks,

So I have a buyer who has sent a cancellation request after I accepted their offer claiming they made a mistake.

Now when I click on “Approve and relist with fees” instead of decline, eBay wants to refund the buyer using part my eBay balance and also charge part from my card.

I don’t seem to see any eBay balance when I go into the my eBay section. Looks like it’s still pending. Also from those pending funds eBay already took off postage fees. So I’m a bit confused as to what’s going on.

I accepted an offer that meant I was to receive £12.50.

eBay took off £3.38 in postage fees.

This means my earnings show as £9.12.

However when I go to authorise the cancellation eBay wants me to process the refund like this:

Amount you owe: £12.50

How You’ll Refund:
Balance: £9.12

Payment Card: £3.38

Am I going to lose money if I approve the buyer’s cancellation request?

Yes alas, that Buyer's funds have not cleared yet so eBay refunds from your payment source and/or other cleared funds. The new funds will clear in time. Annoying but normal, so don't worry!

As already advised, any refund to the buyer is taken from cleared funds and then  any remainder from your payment card instead of from the pending funds.  The pending funds will then be released to you in the normal way.

Unfortunately, as the item was being sent using eBay's Simple Delivery and you selected 'Seller pays postage' you will probably need to manually request a refund for the unused Simple Delivery label using the following link:

Yes, this has happened to me and for some reason more and more buyers seem to want to cancel orders within minutes of purchase. As people have said, its a matter of the buyers funds clearing. These days when it happens, I will always accept the cancellation request but don't rush to do so. I allow for their pending funds to clear first, which usually happens within 24 hrs. As long as you haven't printed off the label, the postage costs are refunded automatically, so you are usually no worse off (just annoyed). As I told one buyer who messaged me, I haven't received their money yet, its being processed. When I do, I'll send it back to them, lol. Not so long ago, before the ebay balance, the full amount would be refunded from your bank account, and that was before you had received the buyers actual payment.
