Bladed items

Think Ebay are just annoying members now for the sake of it. Bearing in mind I don't list bladed items! I have just received an email from Ebay, posted part of it below:

Since you’re listing bladed items on ebay, we’re writing to let you know about some upcoming new requirements. From 11 March 2025, we’re expanding and strengthening buyer age-verification requirements for bladed items to ensure only people aged 18 or older are able to purchase and receive them. This protects both buyers and sellers, provides safety and reassurance, and helps keep you legally compliant.

Re: Bladed items

Has anyone found a reasonably priced age verified delivery service?  One of my best selling items is a junior hacksaw and blades at £4.24 with free postage, but the cheapest age verified delivery service I can find is over £8.  Nobody is going to pay £12 for a junior hacksaw, so this and about 20% of my entire eBay shop is going to have to be de-listed.

Nobody ever found more and better ways to shoot themselves in the foot than eBay

Re: Bladed items

I sell springs for garden pruners and all my items have been flagged.
I called support yesterday and they know about the glitch and working on it.

Re: Bladed items

I just checked Royal Mail and assuming your item fits in their small parcel category - up to 2Kg, 45x35x16cm - which I would think a junior hacksaw and blades would, then for 48 hour delivery their age verified service is £6.27.

But that's just my normal, personal Royal Mail account. I guess maybe it might be more (or less) for business accounts???

I agree though that for a junior hacksaw that is still a pretty exorbitant shipping cost. And being a keen hobbyist joiner I have no idea how a junior hacksaw could be seen as a dangerous weapon. You could probably do more damage to someone with a steel carpenter's square.

Alas this is the world we now all inhabit.

Re: Bladed items

Yes but that is still £4.35 more in postage as could previously go as LL (up to 250g 2nd class) for £1.90.

That more than triples the postage cost. Buyers are unlikely to pay that, much cheaper to buy it in person at Screwfix, B&Q or Wickes.

I’ve got the same problem with lawn mower blades that we occasionally sell.

Re: Bladed items

My point exactly- fortunately our business has a wholesale division which
supplies hardware, DIY and building trade outlets, so I am hoping that we
will get back from physical shops the huge amount of sales which eBay have
just wiped out from our online activity

Re: Bladed items

Well I rang support on Tuesday about the error and was told it would take about three days to sort it.
It's now Saturday and I'm still getting the flag and none of my spring listings are showing up to buyers.

Re: Bladed items

i simply will not purchase items such as bladed items that require age verification, notice how knife crime increases year upon year,no matter the restrictions. What happened to the idea of automatic 5 year sentencing?,there is no deterrent in soft touch Britain.Little by little the 'marxists', 'socialists' are destroying us from within ,all niche interests and hobbies have been attacked and regulated until eventually you will all be drones, you will own nothing and be happy.Rant over.

Re: Bladed items

Note there is no real addressing of 'knife' crime or most other crimes for that matter (ask the victims),there's a bigger picture, ever wonder why things are going downhill in the Uk? is it by accident or design? (destroy a nation from within, without firing a single shot or going to armed war).Anyways it's a big subject not really appropriate to be addressed in detail here.Have a wonderful day.

Re: Bladed items

Lol, i was just touching on the subject, any further discussion should be relegated to some social media sites where their posting counts may give them some imaginary relevance or 'power boost' and where those that are irked can really get their proverbial teeth into the subject (i can't really suggest any social media sites as i do not use any).Alas the mobius loop is strong here, round and round we go lol.

P.S.note to self,do not deviate off subject matter you are not a human you will conform, you will conform, you have no free spirit, you have no critical thinking,do not feed the trolls etc etc, lol.

Going off on a tangent, what's that word that keeps coming in my mind?? can't quite place it, fremdscham or schadenfreude, but i digress i'm doing it again going off the subject matter, call the authorities we have a divergent.

Anyways again have an absolutely wonderful day.

P.P.S i may have earned some more points/relevance for increasing my postings,i feel so alive.

Over and out.

Re: Bladed items

I totally agree with your comment.

However I work in the building trade, and I don't own a credit card.

I am now unable to buy any bladed item form Ebay. I was currently looking for a new hand saw and new circular saw. Both item I will have to purchase elsewhere as age verification policy for Ebay is totally wrong at the moment. There needs to be another way of verification.

Re: Bladed items

I can't even buy a circular saw from Ebay now, age verification procedure is all set up wrong. There are other ways they let people verify their age

Re: Bladed items

Ebay's bot is like a joke. ''Wooden Duck Book's Tab'' as for it is a blade. ??????

I remember years ago I tried to sel brass old gun model and my auction was suspended for selling not even a copy but just a model where any comparison with original should be easy to show that suspention is simply not logical. I understand that there are certain, as for me stupid and contributing nothing to the matter, top-down regulations. But logic also applies and a bot should not replace human judgment in such a case. It is enough that conducting any trade on eBay is becoming more and more tiring anyway.

Imagine trying to sell your car if the colour is gun metal. The bot would have a fit🤣

Re: Bladed items

This is a total nightmare, which is costing me a serious amount of money.
According to the eBay bots, a jigsaw blade covered with tungsten carbide
grit for shaping tiles is a lethal weapon and they won't let us sell it.

The whole knife and blade thing is a farce anyway, which just inconveniences
and punished normal hardworking honest people. Not a single violent crime
will be prevented by all this nonsense. The sort of people who are in gangs
and enjoy violence and knife crime will, if unable to buy knives on eBay a)
take one from the kitchen drawer b) get their older brother or a fellow gang
member to buy one for them or c) get one on the Dark Web. Not being able to
buy a jigsaw blade on eBay is not exactly going to deter them from their
violent intentions.
