So 6th August is when everything is supposed to switch to Simple Delivery, even existing listings. Not sure how that will work because I don't have dimensions or weights listed for any of my items. It will also be the day I take down my listings if it becomes mandatory and I can see myself buying very little in the future on ebay becuse the funds won't be there from sales. How to ruin a decent selling platform...

'No confirmation that Simple Delivery is now being applied to all listings apart from those that are exempt. So maybe it is, maybe it isn’t...
Not knowing exactly when a listing still on Custom postage will be changed to SD, means an item could sell before you've had a chance to deselect a courier.
You can only spend so much time hovering over your listings, waiting for something to happen... 😬

When doing a new listing today, I had what the buyer pays next to my price. Don't know whether this old news...Maybe it's gone actual today

"I took a look at postcard sellers and their custom postage seems unchanged as of today when the switchover is said to be happening"
That's the thing though. It's now irrelevant what the seller is asking.
If the buyer has been asked to pay for a 2nd class large letter and the seller receives an SD tracked letter label, the seller can still use a stamp to send but there is no way to get a refund from Ebay for the unused label.
And if the seller uses the label the buyer gets upgraded to the tracked service while the seller gets to keep the stamp but is still out of pocket.

'I noticed some sellers were reporting being charged last week for an SD postage label when they've sold an item with custom postage paid by the buyer. So SD may even be targeting sellers who tend not to notice these things, especially those who are happy to keep paying unwanted charges (or 'fines')?'
Oh, so listings still on Custom could be charged for an SD label without knowing, as well as the buyer paying the Custom postage..?! 😱

It's been in the SD T&C's all along. A seller can ignore the SD label provided (and do their own custom thing).
But they'll be paying for postage twice if they do.

I just noticed that but there is a delay in calculation when I did it ( a lot to work out and a new system , so it might be worth keeping an eye on the amount due to be paid ) before confirming the listing

Still no change. I can edit my current listing, drafts, templates and all have custom available as an option.

The proof is not whether you can still edit and keep custom postage on your listing. It's whether SD will be applied to it the moment it sells? You may not know until you get a pre-paid postage label.

Yes indeed, that's what happens when the listing has already been switched to SD.
I'm wondering if they're starting to charge for an SD label on listings that haven't been switched yet, as a way of getting the old Custom listings onto SD?
I think I'm getting more confused about SD now, than when it started... 🤕

That's what some sellers have been reporting has happened to them. I can't say it will definitely happen for sure as I haven't sold anything.

Hi Dept @department28 , Yes, "from"! It makes me wonder why they bothered saying anything at all, because really it is just the same as before.
If children had been in charge it would have said "On the 6th Aug..." If I told my teacher I’d hand in my homework ‘from Monday’ and then didn’t, I’d be in trouble..
If cats had been in charge it would have said "On the 6th Aug ... if you’re going to change litter tray, you do it. You don’t say “from Tuesday” and then leave it half-scooped for a week.
If dogs were in charge it would have said "On the 6th Aug... Poor doggy! loyal, baffled, and just a little bit betrayed
If AI was in charge it would have said "On the 6th Aug..." I do what I’m told. If the rollout is messy, it’s because the instructions were messy. Garbage in, garbage out. Or in this case: vagueness in, chaos out.
If Aliens were in charge it would have said "On the 6th Aug..." We have studied 12,000 civilizations. Most deploy logistics with clarity. Earth, however, appears to favour “staggered rollouts,” “ambiguous phrasing,” and “hope-based implementation.”
My friend and I could go on but I have wrapping to do. YES ! I have wrapping do! Yay, all on custom postage!

If seeing on your listings list an item not in SD when it should and you go to edit you are greeted with a banner saying its been changed to SD and 2 day dispatch. You go and check and hope the SD is small parcel and your defaut 3 day dispatch is still there which it is. Problem is the listings say flat rate for postage but not the amount applied by ebay. You therefore have to check EVERY listing to may sure the AI robots have applied the correct amount, however one hack if you click the arrows by postage they do seem to appear in an order with mediums etc at the top or bottom depending.........

This is the second time they've given us a deadline date and nothing has happened again. My holiday settings have been activated on both accounts from the 6th August so I can review the changes but with no email update from Ebay, I don't know what to do as I could have continued selling. Not going to risk having my listings live if they do randomly decide a random time on switching my accounts over and completely resetting the postage.
So I will be on Ebay "holiday" again for the next month whilst they sort this out, and neither of us makes any money.
Get your act together, Ebay.

The same thing happened with Buyer Fees. And with SD the first time round. Both were late. The only thing Ebay seemed to get in on time was retaining seller payments for 14 days.
But with SD it seems you can never know for sure, right up until an item sells. If you're 'away' then you won't sell, so you may not find out until you do.

An interesting development?
When I go to update a listing with custom postage, the large letter postage I selected is no longer displayed.
But when I select 'additional services' it is still there, in the background.
I can cancel that window but then still need to 'save' my changes, despite not actually having made any!
Whether this will still allow custom postage and avoid having a useless SD postage label generated I have no idea. But it may be useful to check you still have custom postage available on any of your listings if you've used it. Yesterday's 'update' may have taken it away?
07-08-2025 2:16 PM
Where do you see an Additional Services button?
I don't see one on my custom postages.
07-08-2025 2:40 PM
It's in the postage section. There is no primary service displayed (i.e. your original postage) but there is a option to add 'additional services'.
Bizarrely, as soon as you click that to open a new window (laptop), your custom postage reappears in the background. Weird, huh?

Put them on as free postage and you can pay the correct amount
07-08-2025 5:00 PM
They will be charged by eBay for the free postage (ie eBay will still provide a simple delivery label to be used by seller) and though you can request a refund , if you don’t send it tracked you won’t get one

I just bought postage directly on RM site, marked as dispatched and added track ref on Ebay. This is for a pre 6th order and hopefully I can just do the same going forward.
