the changes ebay have made have some good and bad points for me personally and i'm guessing a few other ebay members also, the good points are obvious the bad one for me is the reduced free listing. i have nearly 2000 items that i sell over a 120 day period some in the month of 1000 free lisings
the others stored ready to be relisted in the 90 day time limit where they can be stored ready to be re-listed. with the changes around 1000 of these will be lost and deleted not the end of the world i know but that does repersent hours apon hours of work lost forever !
at the risk of raising my head above the parapet there does seem a certaian dislike for folks just trying to sell things they no longer want or indeed in my case (and i'm sure many others) items they have collected as a hobby, interest etc over many years but in these hard times need to sell as to eat or heat !. i'm guessing i am now going to be told that i can't be a private seller as i (try) to sell so many items. well my defence is long and winded but have brought on ebay twice as much as sold (feedback as a seller 3654 feedback as a buyer 7629 ..... as i'm sure will be checked by some ! ) and if i was a buisness i'd be long dead & gone now !
if this message evokes anger please be kind if it evokes symphay then all well and good ....vouchers would be nice ( but no woolworths or wilkinson's please ! )

I have managed to keep my drafts going time after time, as the 75th looms I "resume draft". You do have to change a word in title, then it thinks it's a new draft and will stay for another 75 days! I have a couple I have done this several times to.

You can schedule listings for months ahead and then edit them as the time approaches if you don't want them to go live. I am not sure exactly how far ahead you can schedule a listing for but have a look and see what you can do there.
You may have an issue if eBay decide to make major listing page changes and they get corrupted but I'm talking worst case scenario there.

Or just an afterthought, if you go into drafts and edit them, the clock resets to 0 so you can in theory prevent them being deleted indefinitely. It is just a lot of work.
With the books you have, I'd scan them into Ziffit, WeBuyBooks and Music Magpie and see which ones you can shift as bulk sales for a fair price.

also currently my items are in "unsold listings" but will dissapear after 90 days in the past i got round this by simply relisting them using free lisings but now having only 300 a month this will not be possible !

ha yes thanks again, actually that was in my long term plan ! (to do more or less exactly as you advise ) its just brought it forward a bit !
as i say i'm not complaining it is was it is but will now be a bit rushed !

No. In practise, drafts disappear 75 days after you create them ("Creation date"). Yes if you edit them the "Expiry Date" appears to reset. This is a glitch. The draft listing will still disapear 75 days after the creation date. I write from experience.

Did you know that Fixed price Buy It Now listings carry on until sold and don't count towards your 300?
Auction style listings that are set to automatically relist if unsold won't count either (unless you manually relist them).
I do think that you need to prepare for a possible nudge letter from HMRC though asking for the impossible - receipts for the personal items you're re-selling, only because the electic mix of titles, when passed through their algorithm, will profile you and flag you up as a possible reseller of books. Just my opinion, of course, I don't work for HMRC but am familiar with how their algorithms work. Same as if somebody is selling lots of clothes and shoes in different sizes. This flags them up as possible buying from charity shops and boot fairs to resell. If they make the mistake of saying that they're selling on behalf of friends and relatives, thinking that this is a getout clause, this could put them in a trading assistant bracket.

Actually, you may now be right. Certainly in the past I have lost drafts so am very wary, but looking at Ebay Help they seem to have changed the rules at some time.

You are assuming that those of us selling for relatives (not friends, cannot keep up with my families stuff never mind anyone elses) are 'thinking that this is a getout clause'! I am only too aware that the tax man may start rubbing his hands at those of us who do and i am preparing for that eventuality. Then again i am going to wait until it happens and go from there. Will not stop me doing it though but just have to be prepared to cough up the dosh! We are the ones they will probably go for as easy targets with no accountants or other professionals to wave their magic wands! Pretty sure we will all be pulled into paying extra money in tax in the next few years regardless of what you sell or how you sell it!!

But eBay have removed all fees from selling. I never listed more than a couple to half a dozen items on eBay in a month so it isn't a problem for me. Over a year I will probably list no more than 20 to 50 items. Mostly used stuff am no longer using that I don't need.

as for HMRC contacting me for for tax on profitteering from selling a book i paid more for than for what it sold ! ........well good luck for them on that !
i don't have to justify myself on here but by my reckoning i should be due a good tax return on the loses
my so called "business" is making ! .........as by my bookkeeping i'm clearly running at a loss !
i sell because i have to ...... SHOCK HORROR ! i have tried not eating or heating and neither worked !
i have hobbies i no longer can afford to kep up .....anyone on here or elsewhere is welcome to shift through my buys & sales on here ..... current rate as of today ....27 10 24 is two to one in favour of buys !
in simple terms, that means have spent twice as much as i have recieved !
i now sell what in the past i broght to keep not to sell ! when i brought the said items i fully intented to keep them ! ....the books i liked to re-read, the dvd's i liked to re-watch and the coins i collected as a hobby from a kid keeping victorian pennies i had in my pocket money because even then i had the sense to know they were rarer than our current (at the time) queens (yes i'm that old)
also there is a big difference IMHO between clothes and shoe's (in 10 different sizes) to collecting, owning, enjoying, treasuring etc etc books (in 10 different subjects) of course it would be tricky to claim i shrank or expanded from a small, medium, large, XL XXL XXXL or size 1,2,3,4,5,6,7.8.9.10,11,12,13 or that i changed sex etc etc etc !
but is it so hard to accept a interest in different types of reading books .....trains planes & automobiles sports, thriller crime both true and fiction along with war and the modern history of mankind which seems to have declined into a hateful cesspit of begrudging a poor man making small change just so he can eat !
if so,.........god help us all !

I'm not expecting you to justify yourself, you're not answerable to anyone here, it's just a friendly heads up on how the algorithm works. AI will (rightly or wrongly) profile a private seller in a second and one consideration is volume of sales + types of items sold.

@dippedfancy so what you need to do is go to your Unsold list, select all and click on Sell Similar. That will load them all into the bulk relisting page. On that page, instead of clicking on Submit, you click on Save For Later. That will copy all of the unsold listings as Drafts (they will still be in your Unsold list as well).
Once you have them in your Drafts, you can refresh the drafts to stop them from being deleted and keep them for as long as you need to and submit them at your leisure.

I hadn't logged in to my seller account for a month or so & last week when I did, around 3 or 4 of my drafts had turned the number of days left from black to red.
I've not seen this before so I think it's something new to alert you to their imminent demise, that is of course if you remember to actually look!

Mine has always turned red (the days left) when it gets to 7 days left. That's when I do as I said in message 8, which takes it back to 75 days.
