simple delivery

hello every one I have read the new postage simple delivery  for small private sellers like me and I am very concerned its going to be ebay who decides what courier they think I should use, and even more concerned the buyer will choose .this is hermes evri the worst couriers I have never known, I am selling my antique dolls and send them the quickest and safe with my choosen courier .fully insured and next day delivery which I have done with my items for over 17 yrs. I charge my buyers a set amount but if my box and packing goes over I pay the extra for peace of mind. and the thought of them being sent via hermes evri scares me and I would not trust them with a teddy bear, ebay must let me choose my own courier but I am told I have no choice, antiques no matter what must be sent in a manner they deserve and the simple delivery is not . simple delivery is just that for clothes shoes and not breakable .not for antiques and items of great value, I have had my dolls for over 50 years and simple delivery is not going to happen, I do not want to leave ebay but I will take my antiques some where else, so many great sellers have gone, but ebay does not take the time to ask why. ebay must look after the private sellers like me but I doubt it .the big boys are more important,

No sorry not 6ft but it was probably about 4ft it was big as in you would struggle to lose it if you tried to on purpose.

but no courier quite tops Evri.

Absolutely. ebay has done a deal with a courier which has admitted it will lose 8 million parcels this year. ebay has either been misled by Evri on the quality of service that will be provided or its poor service levels have been ignored, which would be a bad indication of how ebay regards it's buyers and sellers.

I don't know how that compares to say Yodel Direct but considering what I have read about Evri they probably excel and win the lost packages away year in year out. One thing which would change my calculation to using Simply Delivery would be if eBay is really going to fully cover loss and damaged parcels instead of the endless restrictions which all couriers operate just none like Evri still.

Yeah I bet buyers are really annoyed at paying the buy and even though they often won INR, INAD etc does the new buyer protections they are paying for really providing anything substantial and worth £10 or whatever the figure it actually is.

Everything about simple delivery has not been researched well by eBay .eBay
wants everything that they do going forward and must make more money.
Even if it means taking there small sellers and buyers and chucking them
under a bus. Inforce this and that and making buyers pay serious amounts of
hard earn’t money for buying from a small seller
.I have many collections that I have collected over the years but how can I
put them into the Evri former Hermes hands who do not give a damm if they
break it loose it or chuck it over the wall and break it
Royal Mail services cut to the core .everything we post must be tracked and
if you want insurance it’s the rip off pack link.
As a small seller I think it’s shameful to charge my buyers 4% to buy from
me .forcing them to go somewhere else. Every small sellers are upset angry
and hurt knowing what and how eBay is treating them. EBay is making deals
with the devil and hell is a hot place where everyone gets burn’t .
if this happens eBay would have driven us away and they can not turn that
back once the damage is done .sooner or later there is going to be
somewhere else to go to sell and the doors will be opened and slammed shut
.and they would have caused there own down fall .my 20 yrs of being a
member will not stop me going

It’s 4% of total purchase paid that every buyer who buys from the small
sellers have to pay. That makes me very sad as I have always treated my
buyers with the greatest of respect and will always go the extra mile
EBay and buyers issues the labels and have 3 choices to choose from.
I am not happy that my collectables could be sent via Evri former Hermes
and will be like General custers last stand and will hold out until it is
no choice. Evri is going to be the worst thing for all small sellers .no
monies paid unless delivered

My man open a "sell similar listing" on anything low end prices as an
example. Skip to postage options where simple delivery asks you to
select weight etc. Right now on the right and botton you should have a
"custom" button and i think a "sender larger by custom" button. Seems
for now we can opt out entirely. The other alternative is offer free
postage and include it in the price. Its not as though we are in the
days where we didn't get FVF on postage costs. Oh how I miss those days

It depends on an items worth. 99% of my sales were sent by RM 2nd Class small parcel. Insured for £20.00. Now I send everything RM Tracked 48 for 14 pence more and it's insured for up to £150.00.

Yes I remember the old days .but it’s a few years that eBay has taken a
percentage of are postage and we have to put in the shortfall .pay taxes if
some one buys from outside the uk that’s still the case .but as a buyer I
feel awful for the buyers who have to pay into eBay coffers with no
returns. They do not have to pay buyers protection from small sellers
The rules should be protection from eBay who will not stop until the little
sellers are history

Collection is available with Royal Mail when using Simple Delivery:

'Collection is available for items sent through Simple Delivery with Royal Mail labels only. You can book a collection on the Royal Mail website after you create your Simple Delivery label.'

You can opt out of using Evri for Simple Delivery in the Postage preferences section of the Seller hub:

Cutting out the local post offices , which will affect their income and staff, not to mention many have used post offices direct for a multiple of reasons and it has worked perfectly for them, and now choice to manage their account effectively is removed...for example some sellers ( comments on this board)  are unable to  measure and weigh parcels - it is all done for them at the Post office so it is exact.

Everyones local community is broadly and adversely at risk if selling, shopping etc online.

For country folk like me and disabled we do not have a post office to send
from
Evri charges customers for collection added on eBay at a cost now

Ref Royal Mail and labels no collection on eBay and as you say .you have
to book your pickup
Some small sellers have paid extra with the cost of postage for there
chosen couriers .rather than risk the likes of Evri .and my collectables
must go safely on there way.
Many times I have packed and found my extra packing costs more but if what
I am packing is fragile this is what I have done

There thousands of us small private sellers who do care about are buyers
and always come back .but now they have to pay 4% to eBay for there
protection .how does that make us feel when they ask why
They do not need protecting from me .we all need protection from eBay

Why don't you just bypass simple delivery using a) straight custom service bypass or b)free postage and add it onto price?

Is Evri really charging for collection? I never use it buy Royal Mail until a few months back was charging me to drop off at a post office instead of waiting in all day for them to collect it. Think Yodel Direct (different from Yodel standard) provides free collection still if you bypass simple delivery.

As I said earlier I would happy split buyer fees if it meant I will permantently able to bypass simple delivery. I don't want anything to do with it or Evri the "I can lose a 4ft brass vase and not find it shipping provider" xD

I spoke to eBay about simple delivery and the options that would now come
into force .and they said only evri and basic Royal Mail will be available.
and pack link rip off prices for anything over £20 .basic RM has a low lost
cover
And I can still do my own couriers but I will have no fall back protection
from eBay

To be honest are conversation become a bit out of order saying this and
that leave if you do not want to except the new ways on eBay.

So if using personal postage choices eBay have stated that there is no " protection" from eBay?

Is this the BPF or the MBG or both?

Every postal carrier has " coverage/protection" and most of what eBay are stating is actually covered by the postal carrier anyhow there is nothing new.

Those who have used the platform responsibly should have no issue a- choice - postal carrier ( using their "cover")  Sellers can offer their  " protection" in there own conditions of sale, which many sellers do anyhow.

No couriers will insure against breakables only loss .so to choose the
quickest delivery to the buyer is important. and that is not Evri.
I am selling some of my antique dolls collected over 50 odd years and there
are very few I trust to deliver them. Plus everything needs careful
planning and insurance .this will not be the case on eBay
So yes I will carry on doing it my way as I have done on eBay before and my
buyers always have smiles on there faces on opening there boxes.
Simple delivery wants all small private sellers on board so that the most
money can be drawn out money wise. sucking out the last dime.
I will not be drawn into this and us small sellers will work it out for are
buyers the best all round service needed .but it is the 4% to every one of
are items that hurt us the most

Royal Mail do compensate for breakages even on non-tracked as long as you have photos and proof of postage.

Fragile items such as glass, ceramics etc are not covered for breakages on any standard delivery and even if sent special delivery they have to be packaged extremely well,  boxed and with correct packaging materials  conforming to the guidelines on the Royal Mail website  - even then you have to prove all of this with complete photographic evidence and more plus proof that the item was damaged due to their mishandling.  Many couriers exclude breakages of fragile items even if only partially made of glass etc from their compensatory cover.   Check the eligible and non eligible items list.

There are specialised companies for larger higher value "fragile" items and these are very expensive.

The post office staff always have informed me  that fragile items such as glass or ceramics  are not covered for breakages. Luckily I have never had any loss even when I have posted a complete tea set, internationally a number of years ago.

Under the old eBay terms ( unsure about the new)  a china item purchased for a birthday  present arrived damaged due to not being packaged correctly and eBay refunded me within a day.

I am unsure if policies on fragile items are any different between non business and business sellers.

It is, however the Royal Mail prices are higher - I can send Tracked 48 cheaper online or at the Post Office

I’ve opted out of Simple Delivery only to find the RM prices are more expensive! I made the mistake of setting my own postage price of £3.95 (cost of RM 48  Tracked) and eBay still charged me £5:15 😡
