hello every one I have read the new postage simple delivery for small private sellers like me and I am very concerned its going to be ebay who decides what courier they think I should use, and even more concerned the buyer will choose .this is hermes evri the worst couriers I have never known, I am selling my antique dolls and send them the quickest and safe with my choosen courier .fully insured and next day delivery which I have done with my items for over 17 yrs. I charge my buyers a set amount but if my box and packing goes over I pay the extra for peace of mind. and the thought of them being sent via hermes evri scares me and I would not trust them with a teddy bear, ebay must let me choose my own courier but I am told I have no choice, antiques no matter what must be sent in a manner they deserve and the simple delivery is not . simple delivery is just that for clothes shoes and not breakable .not for antiques and items of great value, I have had my dolls for over 50 years and simple delivery is not going to happen, I do not want to leave ebay but I will take my antiques some where else, so many great sellers have gone, but ebay does not take the time to ask why. ebay must look after the private sellers like me but I doubt it .the big boys are more important,

It will be down to the seller to cover any shortfall.

If and these are the big “ifs”
eBay takes responsibility for the items once signed over to courier as per their own terms and conditions then fine I will continue with selling items and accept that sometimes rather than going to RM I may have to go somewhere else to drop a package off.
I wonder how long it will be before eBay reconsider this though, most of us here will have had or heard of bad experiences with evri (ours is personally fantastic) and if it starts hitting eBay’s bottom line then it will maybe revert back.
wishful thinking I’m sure.

Hi there just been talking to ebay, the items you already have on will stay the same post them as youve put,on new listings just opt out of simple delivery ,and press custom postage and post it how you like, the only thing that will change is that you wont get payed for 2 weeks

I am in the same boat. I sell vintage china and glass and only use Royal Mail as they seem to handle stuff with more care and claiming for damage is easy. Also because I am disabled I appreciate RM collecting large parcels from my house. My average parcel is 45x16x35 and weighs 1-2kg and lugging sometimes 3 or 4 to the Evri drop off is just not going to happen.

But with Simple Delivery eBay provides full protection (for groups of items that eBay says are eligible) against loss or damage during transit, from the moment they are scanned into the carrier's delivery network until they are marked as delivered. Also, sellers using Simple Delivery will not be held responsible for claims raised by buyers for issues occurring during transit.
Eventually the above distinction will be academic as eBay's said Simple Delivery will be compulsory after the 1st quarter of this year.

The forthcoming changes in operation from the 4th Feb for private sellers will see a 4% plus 75 pence surcharge on the price you set when selling an item.
(Money coming in 1)
Then Simple Delivery gives an option for the buyer to choose express or standard - both of which means the selected couriers get business - which they pay eBay for.
(Money coming in 2)
Opting out of Simple Delivery is the only way for a private seller to offer free postage - but then eBay withholds payments for two weeks - accruing capital and interest.
(Money coming in 3).
Simple Delivery means more work for the private sellers, having to ensure final packaging weight and dimensions so as not to encounter a surcharge when it’s presented at the drop off point.
(Surcharge? Bonus money coming in for the courier!)
The changes are simply a method to make more money for eBay.

You have sold 20k items and have nearly 9k listed on a private account. Sounds like a full time job.

I think point 2 would be for non tracked items. My understanding is if it’s tracked and shows delivered it’s 2 days after.
I am not in favour of simple delivery as I only use RM tracked 48. I do not want to deal with evri or the random drop off points.
options seem simple - I either suck it up and deal with it or I use FB marketplace or similar to offload items I no longer desire.

My sister sent a parcel with evri ,the delivered it to the drop off shop which was a petrol station ,but a few days later the buyer opened a case said they hadn't received the item and there was no proof of delivery ,so my sister went down to the petrol station and the back was piled high with parcels and she asked the staff what was going on ,and a woman abruptly told her that they hadn't had time to sort the parcels out ,so my sister asked for her parcel back and the woman found it and then scanned it . So my sister still had to wait for the parcel to be delivered before her funds were released . So simple delivery is going to be a night mare

I think the difference here is that with simple delivery once the courier signs for it on collection it becomes eBay’s problem.
how long this lasts though is anyone’s guess. The keeping funds until delivery confirmed I can deal with, not having a say in what postage is used I do not agree with, I use RM exclusively and the feedback I hear regarding evri is anything but confidence inspiring.

So if it SD is introduced around March, April 1st Maybe !! but if you sell advertising free postage which ebay have pushed/encouraged us to do for years then how can a buyer select which postage option as theoretically there is no postage charged as all built into the selling price ? and so would be effectively charged twice for postage ?.

I've just read an article about Evri admitting it will probably lose about 8 million parcels this year, or 22,000 parcels per day which is a staggering amount.

Perhaps ebay should rename it 'Not So Simple Delivery'? If it ain't broke don't fix it springs to mind! Who better to know the best courier and postage label price for their precious items after taking into account packing material and weight etc? Sellers currently can offer numerous courier options and prices for their buyers to choose from. Like you I shall wait and see what happens when it kicks in
