simple delivery

hello every one I have read the new postage simple delivery  for small private sellers like me and I am very concerned its going to be ebay who decides what courier they think I should use, and even more concerned the buyer will choose .this is hermes evri the worst couriers I have never known, I am selling my antique dolls and send them the quickest and safe with my choosen courier .fully insured and next day delivery which I have done with my items for over 17 yrs. I charge my buyers a set amount but if my box and packing goes over I pay the extra for peace of mind. and the thought of them being sent via hermes evri scares me and I would not trust them with a teddy bear, ebay must let me choose my own courier but I am told I have no choice, antiques no matter what must be sent in a manner they deserve and the simple delivery is not . simple delivery is just that for clothes shoes and not breakable .not for antiques and items of great value, I have had my dolls for over 50 years and simple delivery is not going to happen, I do not want to leave ebay but I will take my antiques some where else, so many great sellers have gone, but ebay does not take the time to ask why. ebay must look after the private sellers like me but I doubt it .the big boys are more important,

It will be down to the seller to cover any shortfall.

Re: simple delivery

Quite agree why do they just leave it as is and go back as we were .its
going to be a nightmare I think also they are using us in the uk as a
pilot project .nowhere on any other eBay forums has this simple delivery
pain in the bum happening anywhere else except here in the uk .buyers
paying for there own protection that should be done without question
private sellers have 4% added to there listings before going live .and
buyers having the 4% added to final winnings . why not 1% or 2% no good not
enough money in it for the you know who. We will have to ride the storm
.but us little sellers are a target and will will be underneath all of
this

Re: simple delivery

If and these are the big “ifs”

eBay takes responsibility for the items once signed over to courier as per their own terms and conditions then fine I will continue with selling items and accept that sometimes rather than going to RM I may have to go somewhere else to drop a package off.

I wonder how long it will be before eBay reconsider this though, most of us here will have had or heard of bad experiences with evri (ours is personally fantastic) and if it starts hitting eBay’s bottom line then it will maybe revert back.

wishful thinking I’m sure.

Re: simple delivery

Hi there just been talking to ebay, the items  you already have on will stay the same post them as youve put,on new listings just opt out of simple delivery ,and press custom postage and post it how you like, the only thing that will change is that you wont get payed for 2 weeks

Re: simple delivery

I am in the same boat. I sell vintage china and glass and only use Royal Mail as they seem to handle stuff with more care and claiming for damage is easy.  Also because I am disabled I appreciate RM collecting large parcels from my house.  My average parcel is 45x16x35 and weighs 1-2kg and lugging sometimes 3 or 4 to the Evri drop off is just not going to happen.

But with Simple Delivery eBay provides full protection (for groups of items that eBay says are eligible) against loss or damage during transit, from the moment they are scanned into the carrier's delivery network until they are marked as delivered. Also, sellers using Simple Delivery will not be held responsible for claims raised by buyers for issues occurring during transit.

Eventually the above distinction will be academic as eBay's said Simple Delivery will be compulsory after the 1st quarter of this year.

Re: simple delivery

The forthcoming changes in operation from the 4th Feb for private sellers will see a 4% plus 75 pence surcharge on the price you set when selling an item.

(Money coming in 1)

Then Simple Delivery gives an option for the buyer to choose express or standard - both of which means the selected couriers get business - which they pay eBay for.

(Money coming in 2)

Opting out of Simple Delivery is the only way for a private seller to offer free postage - but then eBay withholds payments for two weeks - accruing capital and interest.

(Money coming in 3).

Simple Delivery means more work for the private sellers, having to ensure final packaging weight and dimensions so as not to encounter a surcharge when it’s presented at the drop off point.

(Surcharge? Bonus money coming in for the courier!)
The changes are simply a method to make more money for eBay.

Re: simple delivery

You have sold 20k items and have nearly 9k listed on a private account. Sounds like a full time job.

Re: simple delivery

I think point 2 would be for non tracked items. My understanding is if it’s tracked and shows delivered it’s 2 days after.

I am not in favour of simple delivery as I only use RM tracked 48. I do not want to deal with evri or the random drop off points.

options seem simple - I either suck it up and deal with it or I use FB marketplace or similar to offload items I no longer desire.

Re: simple delivery

What does it matter as a private seller I am under strict rules and as a
buyer I am told I need buyers protection .what the hell thats eBay’s job.
that’s 4–% profit straight into eBay coffers for doing nothing. So eBay
says in there email this will be added on .so when the buyer goes to
checkout There will be no shocks . But the problem is once buyers know
about this as some have no clue .it will taken as greed from the private
sellers
The simple delivery system is ok for clothes shoes etc but not for things
of value. I knew this would be outrageous but my god Evri for heaven’s sake
They will deliver broken items and the rest will get lost. I will fight for
the right to use couriers of my own choice to send my items safely. But
also lurking in the shadows is pack link. My boxes are mostly over 36”
and no courier choice on eBay post will take it bar one Parcelforce but
that’s being removed . So where do I stand .buyers deciding the cost of my
parcels. I do not know the bright spark who has come up with this but when
eBay puts antique dolls into children’s plaything it was the nail in
collectors coffins.
The truth maybe that eBay wants to push buyers away from private sellers
towards there fab bisz boys .eBay is a community of small medium and
business members that work in different ways but take away either and you
are left with a dying one. So please give us private sellers buyers the
right to choose . not charge us what sellers we buy from . not just us
being pushed aside

Re: simple delivery

My sister sent a parcel with evri ,the delivered it to the drop off  shop which was a petrol station ,but a few days later the buyer opened a case said they hadn't received the item and there was no proof of delivery ,so my sister went down to the petrol station and the back was piled high with parcels and she asked the staff what was going on ,and a woman abruptly told her that they hadn't had time to sort the parcels out ,so my sister asked for her parcel back and the woman found it and then scanned it . So my sister still had to wait for the parcel to be delivered before her funds were released .  So simple delivery is going to be a night mare

Re: simple delivery

I think the difference here is that with simple delivery once the courier signs for it on collection it becomes eBay’s problem.

how long this lasts though is anyone’s guess. The keeping funds until delivery confirmed I can deal with, not having a say in what postage is used I do not agree with, I use RM exclusively and the feedback I hear regarding evri is anything but confidence inspiring.

Re: simple delivery

So if it SD is introduced around March, April 1st Maybe !! but if you sell advertising free postage which ebay have pushed/encouraged us to do for years then how can a buyer select which postage option as theoretically there is no postage charged as all built into the selling price ? and so would be effectively charged twice for postage ?.

Re: simple delivery

EBay has always said free post or tracked for seller protection .or sellers
have to risk it arrives and the buyers are honest . eBay has for years took
a percentage of every seller postage so we have to add the shortfall. There
is always a catch where eBay is concerned . Yes you can do free post on
small items but items of high value some must be on the buyers. It does
not make a difference because once the buyers have to pay 4% for buyer
protection it will be on the final price paid. I am the mafia as a seller
and I need protection as a buyer from the mafia. You can not make it up .
As for SD yes it will be in force soon with one of the worst couriers I
have ever known .if I take eBay’s postage label these are one of .no
collection insured over the odds and cheap as chips couriers . If I do free
post I have a choice in my view eBay should give us a choice of couriers
that are there now .because it’s are items not there’s .and every item
every label even a percentage of the insurance eBay’s bank makes money .I
still say on eBay it’s like swimming in shark infested waters and we know
who they are .but if we are not happy we know what to do . EBay does not
ask why we leave but there is always another to take are place .20 yrs of
ebaying I have seen it all heard it all . this has not been thought threw

Re: simple delivery

I've just read an article about Evri admitting it will probably lose about 8 million parcels this year, or 22,000 parcels per day which is a staggering amount.

Re: simple delivery

You are right all over the newspapers Evri track record. and eBay expects
us to send are sold items via Evri EBay says these are one of the 2
couriers that are set up in simply delivery. This is an absolutely huge
mine field for us small private sellers .but it’s a bigger impact on the
small sales we sell
The shocking truth of this is the nail in the coffin for small sellers who
earn pennies. If you charge postage you must pay this yourself like I
did yesterday upfront £8.50 and will not be given back until the buyer has
received there item 2 days later then I went on eBay postage and my usual
courier I could not use. But Evri was there the most hated courier ever
known. Broke things get delivered good ones rarely arrive.
EBay has no right to hold buyers postage and expect everyone to be postage
free or like I did pay up front. What if I sell a few items of small value
and then have to find the postage costs myself.
What the hell is coming next we have buyers who buy from small sellers
like me paying 4% for there protection on every purchase eBay holding money
back including postage .20 yrs I have been a member but now god knows
what’s next .

Why advertise on telly sell your unwanted items then hammer you with extra
fee’s eBay is all about money but surely you should look after all the big
boys little boys and small sellers alike. Most can not afford to spend
money upfront .keep are money but give the small sellers there postage
costs. Buyers do not have to pay protection money against me but eBay
should protect us all we pay them enough to do so

Re: simple delivery

Perhaps ebay should rename it 'Not So Simple Delivery'? If it ain't broke don't fix it springs to mind! Who better to know the best courier and postage label price for their precious items after taking into account packing material and weight etc? Sellers currently can offer numerous courier options and prices for their buyers to choose from. Like you I shall wait and see what happens when it kicks in

Re: simple delivery

To be honest I do not know why this simple delivery is coming at all. It’s
eBay once and again making more money from the 2 couriers listed.
None of us needs simple delivery and certainly not evri . Every seller know
evri .I do not trust them with a teddy bear .they must be rubbing there
hands with glee getting the business this will raise for them . .
The thing is we all ready make the best simple delivery to are buyers all
ready. Best cost best courier so why oh why is eBay putting a spanner in
the works.and holding us 2 these two.
couriers Being disabled all my parcels are collected but this will be
taken away .
Not all of us live next door to a post office pickup point.
So what with a lump sum from 2couriers .4—% from the buyer protection
racket. . holding are money to at least 2 days after delivery .no upfront
postage to use .I think that’s the most awful thing eBay has done to
private sellers taking advantage of us members to make more money from us
EBay does not want to understand or forget us little sellers and are buyers
started up eBay
We are part of the puzzle that holds eBay together it will not survive
without every piece .are pennies make millions worldwide for eBay it’s a
shame that eBay treats us like this .we can not all find monies for new so
private sellers are a god send and if you need a broom etc business
sellers have all that too
