postage addition

Hi - I have just sold an item but I was wrong with the postage-my error-calculated the item as 2kg but it really needs double boxing which has pushed the weight/price up.  My buyer has paid for the simple delivery label at small parcel 2kg.  I am happy to pay for the additional £3/£4 if needed.  I have not printed the label.  My problem is if I dont print the label and buy another one from the PO with the correct postage will my buyer be refunded the original label cost? Does anyone know if it is possible to use the original label and just purchase additional postage from the PO to cover the difference?  Does this affect tracking?

thanks

You cannot add cost on to an existing Simple Delivery label.

You can buy, pay for,  and use the correct  postage label from your PO, but  you cannot now add any new tracking,   eBay suggest sending the buyer a message with those tracking details.  If a case is opened later for item not received,   you will be able to add those tracking details.

A refund is sent to whoever paid for the SD label:

  • If you selected 'Buyer pays’ when you created the listing, your buyer will automatically be refunded for any Simple Delivery label that isn’t used after 30 days

  • If you selected ‘Seller pays’ and offered free postage on your listing, you'll need to fill out the Request a refund for Simple Delivery form for the label that wasn’t used. Make sure to send your request within 14 days of your item selling.

Your payout for the item will be held for a minimum of 14 days.

You can't add to a SD label.    If you buy postage yourself the buyer will be refunded for the unused label in 30 days.

You could cancel/refund the transaction with the buyer's agreement (via the dropdown menu arrow for the item on your orders list) and relist with correct postage for the buyer to buy and pay again.

If you buy the correct postage yourself to mark dispatched and get the buyer's address you need to generate the original prepaid label (Get prepaid label > Get prepaid label and QR code).   It will remain unused.   However you cannot add a new tracking number.  All you can do is message the buyer with the new tracking details. You would still be able to add the new number to a "Not received" case if the buyer opened one though.

You say a double boxing, but if the parcel dimensions are still close to that of a small parcel, or if the weight is not a crazy amount over, I would still use the assigned simple delivery label. eBay's own terms conditions state if you chose their recommended postage settings, they will be responsible for any extra costs incurred. Otherwise you will be charged later for any extra postage costs. That is also assuming that the post office even picks up on it, which in truth is not very likely, as the printed label doesn't state a weight, nor how much postage you have paid. The amount of purchases I am still getting, clearly parcel sized, but with large letter postage labels (yes simple delivery) is unbelievable !

thanks - thats about what I thought.  My buyer paid for the label so I guess he will get the refund.  Ill just have to take care in future.

thanks - I dont think I will get in touch with my buyer and go through the cancellation/rebuy route.  I will buy the correct postage, send them the new tracking ref and cancel the original label.

Lesson learnt 🙂

thanks - definitely worth a thought.  The box size remains the same as the 'double box' bit is internal.

I'm doing nothing at the moment and am going through my boxes and stuff to see what I come up with. Just a bit of a panic!
