eBay is now changing postage of items listed months ago, and getting the postage wrong.
There is a reason choose Royal mail over Evri for posting certain items.
I suggest sellers look at the number and type of items for which you cannot get insurance from Evri for damage, while royal mail will cover your item.
eBay , under there posting regime are taking no account of this situation whatever.
Which means, you may have to cancel order and relist item with postage details rectified, to get your item covered as regards damage to item.
They are also getting weight and size of packages wrong.
Am I the only one who thinks eBay are taking "bloody" liberties with both their sellers and buyers?

Take a look at the Seller Central board.

Under Simple Delivery e-Bay cover parcels against loss or damage for up to £750 with far fewer exclusions than Evri. It therefore doesn't matter who actually does the carriage.
They also estimate what something will cost to send and if it's too low they still honour the price. There are no penalties levied on either the Seller or Buyer.

But there are also items on the prohibited list for SD (like current postage stamps) which are bizarrely being opted into postage with SD anyway. So apparently NOT covered, regardless of carrier?
If items ARE prohibited by SD then the sellers should reasonably be given the option to opt out of SD too.

Evri won't pay out on valid postage stamps and Royal Mail only will if they were sent by Special Delivery as they class them as "Money." Simple Delivery is therefore no worse in that regard that dealing with Evri/RM direct.
I do agree that Sellers of such things should be able to opt-out of Simple Delivery and use an appropriate service, though finding Buyers who'd pay the higher cost would be challenging.

I'm pretty sure RM DO pay out on their own postage stamps as they're not just money, there seems to be whole market out there for collecting and trading the things! And I have had some get lost in the post before and RM was happy to pay out. Though that was probably in 'signed for' days. Remember signed for, when it was worth something?
But it's possible RM is now more in line with Ebay or getting their best ideas from there. How long before nothing at all is 'covered' by a postage service and insurance is a separate chunks of new fees to pay? From both sellers AND buyers, ideally?
Just wait until 2026!

I wonder how may people don't realise that gift vouchers, book tokens &c aren't covered either.

Thanks for posting that. The irony is that Royal Mail will NOT exchange postage stamps for cash, so it's hardly 'money' in any practical sense. But it appears that 'valuables' can take many forms, even with actual values of just £20.01 or so.
There is a signed for option when buying Tracked 48 postage but typically that's not available with SD. Maybe one day it will be?
Otherwise, there's always selling with buyer collection? In many ways, Collection Only seems to be the new Simple Delivery, if only because so many sellers that didn't bother before have now been forced to start using it. 😉
