Simple delivery

I notice that from 26 Dec the only option to mail items for private sellers is via simple delivery. The problem for me here is that I send the vast majority of my items 2nd class Royal mail, I have thousands of 2nd class stamps which I use to send these items. I bought the stamps before Royal mail starting hiking up their prices every couple of months. Most of my sales are packs of guitar picks, which I send 2nd class in small envelopes. I have thousands of stamps and hundred's of pounds worth of stock, using simple delivery would put the price up to a point where I wouldn't make any sales. The only reason I can sell them cheaply is because I have a backlog of stamps.  I also have no printer, and  nothing to download a QR code onto, I'm an old age pensioner living in a 1 bed flat just trying to sell a few picks a week on eBay.

Re: Simple delivery

Do wonder. I’m interested. Perhaps you’d like to accuse me outright of something.

Why do you believe I have no items for sale? I certainly do.

Re: Simple delivery

Yes dantwocats, you do have to wonder about some people who spend time on these forums. Keyboards warriors 15 / 18 hours a day.  Yes there is free speech available but also a life to lead.

Re: Simple delivery

There are people leaving comments here who are clearly linked to the organization we are discussing, they must think that we were born yesterday. One has now started leaving comments with veiled threats, and enticing people to commit  themselves to making accusations...

Re: Simple delivery

I was sent an email earlier this week stating that listings would be altered to simple delivery only, your guess is as good as mine as to why they chose Boxing day to implement this... At least *bleep* Turpin had the decency to wear a mask

Re: Simple delivery

How do I have a clear link to eBay?

Is it because I believe buyers shouldn’t be deprived of their consumer rights?

I agree with the above, be a private seller, but don’t complain about everything that comes part and parcel with it.

Re: Simple delivery

This email

We’re improving delivery so it’s easier and more secure for you to send your items to buyers.

Starting 26 Dec, we’ll begin updating eligible live listings to Simple Delivery. This means you’ll get automatic tracking, pre-paid labels and QR codes. Plus, you’re fully protected if your item is lost or damaged in transit. The rollout will take place over the coming weeks.

Updates to your listings:

  • You may see a change to the courier you selected when you listed your item. With Simple Delivery, you’ll have access to services from Royal Mail, Evri, DHL and InPost. If you have a preferred option, you can easily set your Postage Preferences in your account settings. We recommend enabling them all for the most competitive rates. If you’ve already set your preferences, you’ll receive a label from one of your chosen couriers once your item sells.

  • The postage price may change from the price you saw when listing. If you opted for buyer or seller-paid postage, this will stay the same when switched to Simple Delivery. Find out more about the postage costs.

How does Simple Delivery work?

Our all-in-one delivery solution is designed to make your selling experience easier and more secure. Once your item sells:

  • 1.

You’ll receive both a pre-paid printable label and QR code, which automatically include tracking so you can get paid faster.

  • 2.

You can then drop off at the nearest courier location, or schedule a home collection.

  • 3.

We’ll work directly with your buyer if they experience any delivery-related issues or don't receive their item, so you don't have to.

Re: Simple delivery

I have just become confused by the whole thing, I think I'm just going to sit it out until the time comes and suck it and see. As it stands I'm still listing items and updating listings, just have to make some adjustments to weight etc and making sure that relevant postal service is selected.

Re: Simple delivery

I honestly do not have a clue, eBay isn't known for it's transparency.

Just to correct a few of your misunderstandings.

There is no monthly charge to have a business account, you are getting confused with a shop subscription.

You don't need a limited company,  you can continue as a sole trader.

You don't need to register for VAT unless your turnover exceeds the VAT threshold.

Trading on  private account does more than deprive ebay of fees, it results in the seller breaking a number of consumer laws as well as one that would result in a criminal prosecution.   That is the law that says a business cannot misrepresentate itself as a private seller.

It's not about volume, or frequency , or profit.  If someone buys stuff with the intention of selling it, that requires an ebay business account.

Re: Simple delivery

its easier to read what evri covers than reading what they don't, ?  anyway if you are not using simple delivery or only using it a few times a year ? how do you have any experience of the problems its coursed, last week i found an item i had listed as larger letter down as a medium parcel at £5.15 is goes back to the first lot of changes ebay made (I have not had time to check each all listings for postage as why should i as it was right when listed)  and now from the 26th they are doing it again  ,letters and small parcels may all jump up, i have noticed items i listed as large letter as they are a large letter (£1.55 & £1.80) ebays Recommended size is for a small parcel £3.38 ! and perhaps if people had a go and lists afew items and experiences these cockups you would know what its like rather than policing ebay users ,
