Simple delivery lost in post; who from and how does the seller get a refund for item value?

I recently had two lost in post parcels one evri and one royal mail, both were simple delivery with tracking showed them as despatched by myself but ultimately neither arrived with the buyers.

The royalmail parcel I responded to buyers request for a refund and issued a full refund, I then proceeded to claim compensation for value of item  via royalmail and am still waiting.

The evri parcel approach taken by ebay was different,  I did not get a request for refund message from the buyer instead all I got was a message from eBay saying both myself and the buyer had been refunded including the buyers message to ebay flagging the missing parcel. So what I'm confused is for lost in post  items then i as a seller should expect an automatic refund by ebay instead of me chasing the courier for compensation  and to achieve this I should not automatically issue refunds and instead wait for ebay to ressolve? Please advise

With Simple Delivery  buyer opens a claim then eBay will issue the refund themselves and you keep the original payment.    If you refund before the case is opened I'm afraid you will not get the money back.

What a shame you didn't read the T & C's / rules of Simple Delivery before refunding yourself.

Using SD,  if the item is lost in the post,  buyer needs to open a case for item not received,  eBay refund the buyer,  and you the seller,  get to keep the payout for that item.

Familiarise yourself with how Simple Delivery works,  link below,  It can save you a lot of money and time.

You don't need to do any of the claiming. Get the buyer to open a Not Received case and eBay will automatically refund them. You keep your money and buyer gets a refund.
