Simple Delivery

I have been fairly inactive on eBay for over a year and have recently returned to selling again and sold an item  Saturday 14th June 2025 which was the first since January  2025  I ignored "Simple Delivery" and arranged for a collection from Royal Mail and it was collected today 16th June 2025 by our postman at 1pm Tracked 48 as requested (printed my own label) I did not generate an eBay postage label I have used Royal Mail Tracked 48 collection services for most all of my previous sales

What will be the consequences of my actions

Thanks

If the buyer paid for postage, they will get a refund on the unused label, after 14-30 days.
There is supposed to be a way to add the tracking number from the label you paid for, but I haven't found the way to do it yet! If you can't add it, you will have to wait for 14 days to get the payment.

If you usually use RM Tracked 48, you can opt to just have RM, deselecting Evri, that way you will still get a Tracked48 label, but you won't have to pay for it out of your pocket - though you will have to arrange the home collection via the RM site after you have printed off the label.

Consequences are eBay will probably not recognise the tracking details and won't know when it's been delivered. You will have to wait 14 days for your money from them. Your buyer will refund the postage he paid within about 30 days I believe. It may be 14 as well.

If it's this account, I see one item sold recently with free delivery. My understanding is you will already have been charged for the Simple Delivery label. You can check your order fees/transactions etc.

If so, you can, if you like, ask for a refund of that amount: https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/selling/posting-items/setting-postage-options/simple-delivery?id=5575#se...

Ebay are obviously very keen on private sellers using Simple Delivery. This appears to be a one-off that you didn't realise what Simple Delivery was. I've no idea if ebay will "look at" sellers e.g. repeatedly using their own labels.

Also if it was the glass duck AND the simple delivery was by Evri, you could alternatively use the reason "Glass items are excluded from compensation by Evri".

Hi xyz thanks for your response to my query and it was the duck but I didn't activate the "generate postage label" if that is what it is called I only use RM collection services for my sales even letters sometimes

If eBay generate a label for me and my preference is RM Tracked 48 how can I arrange a collection from my home for the extra 30p when I have not personally purchased the label myself via my RM account

As mentioned I have only recently returned to selling and it is like some form of mayhem has happened whilst I have been away

I can fully understand why people are in uproar for changing something that never needed to be changed

Thanks again for your response

Print the label for RM that eBay provided. Use the tracking number off it to buy a collection on the RM website.

This is totally untrue. I have sold items and offered free postage and yet I have still received and been charged for an unused label. I have claimed a refund several times and have now waited 48 days and still received nothing despite several phone calls and promises from ebay that I will be reimbursed and I have the transcripts to prove it. Assuming that you work for ebay you should check this out.

Why are you assuming I work for ebay?

Did you follow all the hoops they ask you to jump though?

Yes, several times and they have all been ignored. I have all the transcripts and emails from ebay agents promising but doing nothing. I am over £70 down in postage and will not be selling anything unless this is resolved. I have been a member for 23 years. The free selling is not true as I have calculated that I am now paying approximately 15% fees by way of unused and non refunded labels

I've had no problems using Tracked 48 via Simple Delivery.

For the last parcel I sent at the beginning of this week an "Arrange Collection" button had appeared which I clicked.  I more-or-less immediately got a confirmation e-mail from RM and DIDN'T pay 30p.

I'd still prefer to deal direct with RM or whoever and Simple Delivery certainly isn't an improvement but simply ignoring something you don't like/agree with is asking for trouble.

I don't need collection as the post office is only 2 minutes away. Also, if you arrange collection only from a buyer you need photographic evidence despite getting a positive feedback for the sale. Also, depending on where you live and the weight of a parcel, you cannot use simple delivery or Royal Mail and that is why there are different couriers (DPD, DHL etc) to use.

Assuming that you are working for ebay you should let them know this. Sellers should not be forced to use a system that almost everybody agrees is useless.

You can get CS to give you a call and get them to add tracking number to the order,

The buyer will get a refund on the label eventually. up to 30 days ( which is ridiculous ).

You don't need photographic evidence. If you had "Collection" as an option on your listings, then if the buyer picks that, he is given a 6 digit number. He gives this to you when he collects. You enter the code and this tells eBay you must have both met up.

Not true. If you offer the postage or collection option you get charged for the label.  When people sell on ebay they do not know where the buyer comes from until they have paid and you have their address. If they live in the same street they will want to collect but if they live in Australia they will want it posted. You automatically get the simple delivery label and cannot get a refund. I know because I have tried several times since the beginning of May. I have evidence from your colleagues at ebay as proof.

You assume wrongly.  IF an e-Bay employee chooses to post on this forum their posts are clearly marked thus.

I'm just a private Seller like you.  I agree that other couriers who are prepared to handle larger items need to be included.  I also don't like the split responsibility between e-Bay and the carrier.

Simple Delivery is another example of e-Bay launching something without properly testing or thinking it through first.  Hopefully it'll improve, or become less bad, in time.  It does seem to be evolving.  A few weeks ago if something was over 2kg the next price band was 15kg, despite neither RM nor Evri having such a band.  Now there are 10kg and 20kg ones, as there should be.  As a said an "Arrange Collection" button has been added, which appears to be free so a that's a definite improvement.

I think there is a lot of confusion on this topic.

There's references to collection which I think are referring to arranging a collection from Royal Mail for a postal order, which is being confused with a customer collection instead. And I've not a clue whats happening in this post...

The arrange collection option is fine if you are selling something large and heavy ie furniture. but there is another option which is "post or collection". I listed an item that went for over £250 and the winning bidder lived locally so understandably wanted to collect which he did. I still got charged and although I quickly claimed a refund for postage I have still not yet received one after over a month. Also, this stuff about the size of the box etc is something that the post office or any courier or seller with a tape measure can do.

You will be charged for the label even if not used and ebay should refund you after 30 days but don't hold your breath
