Simple Delivery compensation

Just to say that I only used once, so far so good.

However, some items I sell are more than £200, and I don't I feel comfortable using just Royal Mail 24 or 28.

After double checking with eBay's CS, I was told that:

*Royal Mail Special Delivery isn't provided.

*if a parcel is lost or damaged,  the courier will cover it all if via Simply Delivery.

It sounds too good to be truth, coz in that case,  I don't need to use Special Delivery and there's no need to worry for some worse case scenarios. However, I still have doubts because I asked 2 CS persons to send me the link of T&C. They promised and yet didn't. I found it a bit tricky, because even RM Special Delivery only covers £2000 or £2500 at maxium. Some luxury items, say a Rolex or Hermes would pass the limit easily.

Does anyone know where I can find this T&C?

Thanks.

Yes, eBay are the Defacto Insurer ect for an item being sent....so why are they also charging a Buyers Protection Fee.... Surely there is no need for this...

Re: Simple Delivery compensation

Why doesn’t eBay state on the listing that the postage covers full value of sold item .Is it to simple to do this .

Re: Simple Delivery compensation

What they also don't tell you if you don't put right postage on the parcel the courier can actually destroy your parcel it's not your property anymore once they receive it , they can also charge you more as well , I would be very worried selling a high value item and it's not fully insured , I didn't know that  eBay collect postage from the buyers and your forced to post with there new service , even thou it's a third party you have no control and any rights , I ended up paying out of my own pocket for postage , because I didn't realise that eBay keeps the postage so I lost hundreds of pounds , I also didn't want to stand in a post office giving out 30 qr codes of my phone playing match the parcel , I dong own a print I am not running a business

Re: Simple Delivery compensation

EBay are running scared from Vinted. This is the Vinted system. I was about to list a £275 coin set but cannot because I will not risk the loss with Royal Mail 24 service - which covers up to £150.  Also… this does not cover silver, gold…

Ebay as usual… treating its sellers like *bleep*e.

Have you gone to Vinted? If so is there an easy way of migrating listings?

Re: Simple Delivery compensation

I don’t use Simple Delivery if over £150 I use custom postage and change it all to special delivery. You don’t need to use simple delivery if you don’t want to.

Re: Simple Delivery compensation

Yeah your right , I am sick of paying for bubble wrap sticky tape envelopes
, packaging etc, I have loads of stuff to sell but I feel if put on for
99p and I lose out , eBay reap all rewards , I don't even make a pound or
two on postage just to cover my time and fuel and wear and tear on the car
, I might do one more blow out sale and then leave eBay to rot

Re: Simple Delivery compensation

Yes I totally agree. I used to add £1 onto the postage to go towards packaging, printing, paper, driving to the P.O., parking etc. Now there is nothing.

Coupled with having had to reduce my item prices, a bit to cope with the fees that the buyer now has to pay, it does all make it very difficult to make any margin.

Re: Simple Delivery compensation

EBay don’t give a toss about private sellers. They rely on the fact they have a monopolistic position and private sellers have little choice but to suffer their abuse. I love the way that eBay try to “sell” simple postage as a benefit when in reality I lose money on every package I send.

Re: Simple Delivery compensation

It's so true , simple robbery more like , we pay for wrapping ,
bubble wrap, sticky tape , boxes envelopes , petrol money ,wear and tear on
the car , it's disgusting , before with postage you might get a little
money back not pounds , I am supposed to stand in a post office and give 30
qr codes to the woman behind the counter , matching them up with the
parcels , absolute nightmare , you will find they was desperate last time
with vinted and other platforms stealing there revenue , they getting rid
of hard core ebayers with there greed

Re: Simple Delivery compensation

yes and we are having to reduce our prices to reflect the direct collection
of the service fee.
I object to being forced to use 'simple postage' when I have been managing
normal postage options for years and have good feedback to show buyers like
most of us.
My listings have already been changed to simple delivery with postage time
2 days. Whilst I often do this, or better, it does not allow any leeway for
unforeseen circumstances, like caring for someone or being unwell or on
holiday. I find the maximum allowed is now 3 days and it has taken me over
half an hour to change them.
NB if you use the multi edit system, the original details remain, so I am
confused as to what the buyers see.
I also noticed some anomalous postage prices so i will have to go back
through everything to check those.
They seem to think you can post a large ceramic bowl for under £3, whilst a
cotton shirt is costing over £4, so that is hardly going to sell!
Don't know how long I am staying with ebay, it is currently a great deal of
work for poor reward and most of my items are for charity.

Re: Simple Delivery compensation

I am unable to change the postage on my listing.  There is only simple delivery as the option and it isn’t the correct price imo
Do you still use the printed label eBay issue for simple delivery and add the extra?
Or do you waiver eBay s involvement in the transaction and have the postal contract with Royal Mail? TIA

Do you mean your item is either too large or too lightweight so should be exempt from Simple Delivery?

There is currently an issue that Simple Delivery not offering Custom Postage to oversize items,  lightweight items and those under £10,  these are all exempt from Simple Delivery.

There is a workaround.

From the link below Go To Solution and follow  the advice in Rick's answer to list your item.

Re: Simple Delivery compensation

personally i find the simple delivery a much better system. the whole listing task now is the quickest its been, load photos, description and a few boxes to tick. Three goods had delivery issues and providing the buyer opens a case the money is refunded. I always tick box for both couriers and buyer pays, select parcel size and weight and thats it. Goods sell print label and send. This for me this is the best ebay has been. I'm not a business, private seller, clearing late Mum's estate, me being her carer for last 15yrs,  and my hoardings from years as I have to move.

Re: Simple Delivery compensation

I am sure that it works for many people.  I only offer Royal Mail as I do not have an Evri drop off close by and I am not driving several miles to drop of an item that someone has paid £10 for.  This creates issues with oversized parcels (>61cm) which is not an issue with Evri.  Also, I used to add a little to the cost of postage to cover actual packing materials etc. but again, if you are happy to swallow those costs then it works for you.

See my answer above how to overcome the oversize item issue with Special Delivery,  which is still after all this time a technical issue not fixed! 🙄

Re: Simple Delivery compensation

It doesn’t work.

Once sold, simple delivery takes over and you’re screwed.

I’ve tried it and ended up with a RM label which i cannot use as the parcel is too big and which eBay won’t replace.

I’m screwed; the buyer is screwed.

Re: Simple Delivery compensation

If eBay overrided your postage and it was insufficient then it’s on them lock stock and barrel

so use the label they give you

and see how it goes because surely AI are  recommending that label so should own it if you see what I mean … eBay do say if you chose their recommended size it’s fine whatever the size and weight if within the carriers total maximum weight and size , they will pick up any extra cost, so how is Ai chosing to change your postage any different to eBay recommending something

EBay  shouldn’t be changing peoples legitimate postage with zero communication and not honour the changes they’ve made

and I don’t know how they can argue their way out of it either

Re: Simple Delivery compensation

Ok so to solve your immediate problem, you explain to the buyer that the
postage was wrong and under ebay's new rules you cannot change it, so you
need to cancel the sale and then re-advertise following the ** paragraph
below. The buyer can then buy with confidence, paying the correct postage.
If the postage is a lot more, then the buyer may not wish to go ahead.
OR you can just get the appropriate postage label at your own expense and
send the parcel with the new label. You lose money, but hopefully only this
once.
First time they put us on to 'simples' we got away with it, as it were and
it cost ebay a fortune to sort out accurate postage labels.
Which is why they went back to giving us options for a while.
But now, after plenty of warning, we are back on 'simples' (which, by the
way I hate anyway) apparently you have had plenty of time to correct your
listings to cater for the new system.
The auto change to the postage you originally put on is not at all
guaranteed to be correct. I found quite a few correct, others obviously
wrong, both under and over priced. EG a car mirror was put down as a large
letter!
**To avoid any further problems you need to put correct sizes (just small,
medium, large parcel or letter not accurate dims) and weights (1kg,2kg,5kg
etc) in your listing.
It is a pain, takes a while but as you have pointed out, ebay are no longer
prepared to take the knocks so you do need to do this. Or stop using ebay,
as some private sellers have.
