I sold two 5 gallon drums of oil to a buyer in the USA. Combined they weight more than the maximum shipping weight. How can I get around this? If I could use my own courier that would solve the problem, but it looks like that can't be done as the shipping money now goes to ebay rather than the seller. Individually they are under the maximum weight though.

I would check to see if they are on the prohibited/banned list first.
Some items to USA can be a nightmare.
I just did an internet search for "exporting 5 gallons of oil to usa" and read :-
"Exporting 5 gallons of oil to the USA is unlikely to be a significant commercial undertaking, but it is technically possible. The main hurdle would be compliance with US regulations, particularly around customs and potential environmental concerns"

I did think about that, but I phoned UPS and they said it was no problem. I think it helps that they are actually from the USA originally.

If you want to send direct with your own postage you can cancel/refund with buyer's agreement (via the dropdown menu for the item on your orders list) and relist with postage to US instead of ebays' global shipping.

Thanks. So I presume that means that I get the postage fee myself? Would I have to wait a couple of weeks for it to clear along with the sale price, or would I get the postage fee upfront?

All the payment clears at the same time but sometimes you can buy postage from ebay using pending funds.

I'm so confused. If I cancel and refund, it looks like I will be down over £70 as I have to refund his postage, but ebay got the money for the postage, not me. Or did I get it? It's so confusing. Why have they made ebay so complicated?
