Is anyone aware why global shipping scheme orders have suddenly jumped drastically in price for orders to the USA (from the UK?) A seller just informed me he’s being quoted $117 for a t shirt and another buyer cancelled an order and I can see they were refunded £129 for a £26 pounds order! Is this is a glitch or is something else going on?

Hi,
Yes I have had exactly the same happen, someone in the US wanted to know why a small pin badge weighting less that 100g (large letter) was costing $100 shipping. But if you changed the shipping to Canada, Brazil or Australia the shipping was around £15-25 for the same item.
I had a look and almost all my listing to the US are at the £100 price mark, I also looked on other random sellers using GSP and they were the same.
Something is definitely seems to be wrong, until this is addressed can’t see me selling anything to the US.

Thanks for the heads up! That’s definitely possible I suppose

Hi
02:45:43 UTC jacuz-2
Hi, a potential buyer has contacted me that items I am selling cost $135 to the US while it $35 earlier today. I had a look and he was right, even a single $5 comic book would cost around $120 to send, which is way out of order. Is this a glitch in ebay?
02:46:15 UTC jacuz-2
This would be via the Global Shipping Programme
02:46:21 UTC Abhishek
To make sure I understand and can best resolve this for you, you're concerned that there is discrepancy in the item price and you wish to sort this out. Is that right?
02:47:20 UTC jacuz-2
No, the postage cost from UK to USA should not be $120 for a $5 comic, duties including
02:47:30 UTC Abhishek
Could you help me with the item number or item name please in order to investigate this for you?

No worries. Thank you for sharing. I’d like to make sure I have the best resolution for you. Will you allow me 2 minutes to review your account?

That comic was quoted to cost $135 to send and a £5 comic was quoted around $120
02:50:22 UTC Abhishek
I see. Thank you for taking the time to explain your situation. I recognize the need to have this resolved quickly.

Thanks

Thank you for waiting patiently, Sandor
02:55:24 UTC Abhishek
Just to confirm, did you check postage cost to US in item page?
02:56:02 UTC jacuz-2
I did, it was just shy of £108
02:56:18 UTC jacuz-2
Around $135

Upon checking, I can confirm that you have turned on Global Shipping Programme in your listing. The international postage with Global Shipping Programme would be a little more than the normal economy delivery charges. Also, eBay will use the insured services to make sure that the sellers are covered in every manner possible if something goes wrong during the transit when the seller's item is shipped from our shipping center to the buyer's location. The buyer of the items which is listed via GSP will be able to view the total shipping costs of the item on the item page before they commit to purchase. Therefore, there will not be any hidden cost for the buyers. You aren't responsible for item loss or damage that occurs after the item reaches the UK Shipping Centre. Once an item has been forwarded by the UK Shipping Centre, you won't be responsible for refunding the buyer if an eBay Money Back Guarantee or PayPal Buyer Protection case is filed against you for one of the following reasons: A buyer claims an item isn't received or a package is damaged in transit. If you don't want to ship with Global Shipping Programme you can turn it off and add your own international postage like Royalmail tracked
02:57:00 UTC Abhishek
Please allow me to know if there is any confusion, I will clear that for you

03:00:23 UTC jacuz-2
I understand all of that but does it make sense to you to pay £95 in shipping cost via GSP for item worth £1.95?
03:01:00 UTC Abhishek
I am sorry to hear that. We appreciate you letting us know your feedback about our features and services. As we are committed to the continuous improvement of our website, I will send your comments to our Product Development Team for review.

03:03:13 UTC Abhishek
Yes, you're right. Global Shipping Programme provides full coverage, international tracking, simplified customs clearance, and no extra charges at delivery, hence the postage cost is higher than normal international postage. For this item, you can turn off Global Shipping Programme and select Royalmail international tracking

GSP always charges the customer a lot more than it shows the seller.

I do think this is a glitch of some sort... and needs reporting to eBay as there are numerous posts about the same thing... - there is no way postage costs to the USA have increased that much and do not believe it is anything to do with tariffs to the USA... nothing has been decided on the UK as yet anyhow... Personally I would not use it and use RM international at the Post Office...
06-02-2025 7:00 AM
Hey folks, looks like it has been sorted. Do you concur? The price shipping to the USA of one of my books went back down to £38 from £95
06-02-2025 7:05 AM
I just checked the shirt that was quoted at $117 yesterday and it’s at $45 today - I don’t know what GSP usually quotes but that seems at least less mind boggling. I’m not sure how anyone could think those prices yesterday were normal but hopefully this is resolved !

marco@ebay thanks for that update! Can you double check on if there were supposed to be changes to the GSP rates from UK to US though and if so, was the technical issue just that the changes provided incorrect calculations?
The reason I ask is that several users in the US community, as well as on Reddit and other social media who were experiencing wildly inflated GSP are now saying they have seen the rates come back down a bit (indicating like you said, the issue was fixed) but they still aren't as low as the same shipment would have been just a few days or a week ago - so it seems there's still a bit of a mystery.
And also, there still seems to be discrepancies between what shows in the search results and what shows on the item page.
Here's a link to one post in the eBay US community about the issue:
Shipping was showing as $20 a couple of days ago (and still shows as $20 if I see the item in my search results), but then I went to buy it and I was going to be charged a ridiculous $123. Then later last night it went down to $49, but I want it to be the $20.

Hi all, thanks for your replies.
This wouldn't be related to the technical issue, I've just checked this again, and this is related to tariffs, unfortunately.
I hope this helps,
Marco

Thanks for the update marco@ebay !

What tariffs? There's nothing going on between the US and UK in that regard. Why not providing more information about that if it's true?
