Had to purchase new RM label, eBay said I'd get refund for original one

eBay simple delivery label generated was for wrong size package (large letter instead of small parcel). Only realised when post office rejected the package. Phoned eBay who originally suggested cancelling transaction and relisting, but I wasn't able to do so as I'm going away tomorrow and won't be be able to post. Was passed onto eBay Despatch dept who said that if I bought  (from RM) and used a new RM tracked label, they would refund me the original label cost once the new tracking number was uploaded. As this didn't happen yet, I checked help and it seems to indicate that as buyer paid for the original label, they would be refunded if the original label was unused. Has anyone had experience of seller being refunded for original label if they had to purchase a new label? I'm selling on behalf of a charity (as a volunteer) and I'd be sad if I had to take the full new postage cost off the proceeds of the sale.

Just to be clear, the Charity picks the parcel size for the listing not Simple Delivery except when SD came in to effect and your listings were updated for you. If they chose the wrong size when importing, then the Post Office is supposed to honour it anyway. Just so you know for the future.

For this time, yes the Buyer is refunded for unused SD labels automatically within 30-days. The Seller needs to apply for a refund of unused SD labels here:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/claims/simple-delivery/refund/seller

You can only apply for a refund if three things are true:

Your substitute service has Tracking

You open the unused SD label and change the SD Tracking number to your new Tracking Number.

You do all this within 14-days.

Happy hols and good luck with your Charity!

Thank you for the advice. From link you included it looked like the Refund Seller application only worked if it met the 3 conditions you listed and that postage was free for the buyer, otherwise the buyer was refunded the postage (although eBay rep explained it like you did). I've completed the request so fingers crossed it works. Lesson learned for the future.

All your recent sales have buyer pays the postage therefore they will get the refund, not you.

Yes, if you paid for the postage, you have to apply for a refund and then wait for it. It can take anywhere from 12 to about 30 days for it to be processed.
