Customer requests me to delay postage

A customer asked me if they would be able to buy the item now, then have me delay the postage by 2-3 days after when I was supposed to have dispatched the package. They asked me how I was going to post it, but I used simple postage and I couldn’t figure out how to see what kind of shipping was going to be used, so I clicked create label to see. This marked it as dispatched, and that it needs to be posted by a date earlier than when they would like. Will me going past this date create some unwanted problems? Can they be resolved after the items been marked as dispatched?

Re: Customer requests me to delay postage

Yes, it will create problems especially as you are new to selling! Ask them if they would like you to dispatch on time? Or would they like to cancel? Use 'Buyer Requested to Cancel' as the reason to avoid a defect on your account.

If they seem friendly and apologetic for causing a headache, ask them if they would like to repurchase later. Let them know when you relist so that they can buy again.

If they seem angry or unreasonable, add them to your Blocked List and go on to a better Buyer.

You always have the option of using the Report a Buyer tool to let eBay know they demanded something not included in the listing (late dispatch) if you want to protect other Sellers too. Good luck!

Re: Customer requests me to delay postage

The one thing you need to avoid on Ebay are defects.    IF the buyer receives the item after the estimated delivery date then you could well get a defect 😞     Defects can result in you going below Ebays required standard which means Ebay can hide the visability of your listings and/or charge you extra fees or even stop you from selling on the site if you get enough defects 😞

I would take the advice from style_wise.

Yes its daft........but when you print out the simple delivery label it automatically marks the item as despatched.   I made that mistake once and printed a label on a Sat lunchtime thinking i was being efficient as i intended to post first thing Monday morning.    Now i print off the labels just before i head off to the Post office.
