Avoiding Simple Delivery

Hello people some one has found the opt out for SD on listing page go down to eBay new Sd click advanced settings and there will be a pop up. Click custom postage another pop up click on then all are couriers will be there as they were before this all started

You mentors keep forgetting to tell people it's more expensive to use whichever remaining shipper your left with once you have excluded the other....feels a bit like another money grab. 

Add the 30p on for collection on the up to 2kg parcel (which you'd have to include in the item price to cover it because you can't add it to the postage rate) and the the postage is more expensive than doing RM via parcel2go....

I don't believe that's the case. I have EVRI toggled because they are as much use as a chocolate ironing board. I pay (under SD) £3.38 for RM upto 1kg and also for upto 2kg. I decided to toggle EVRI to ON as well to see what difference there would and I listed an identical jacket and it was still £3.38.

More expensive than what?  As a seller, I would compare like with like.  I have never used Parcel2go and I don't have to pay 30p to have parcels collected because I take them to the Post Office.

So, using items I currently have listed as examples, RM Tracked 48 (cover up to £150) would cost £4.05p at the Post Office.  Using RM only, Ebay Simple Delivery would cost my buyer £3.64 with cover up to £750.

In MHO for many business/private sellers it is just eBay taking away the option to choose  your own courier or to remain with the existing postal services you feel happy with - for shipping your goods to the customer. 

eBay are attempting to dictate you use only their choices for customer delivery.  There may be those who are perfectly OK with that, but it would appear not to be the case in the majority of postings on this subject. 

In both cases (Royal Mail and Simple Delivery) eBay get to calculate the cost, value and estimate weight of your parcel.

Clearly they benefit from commision from these two postal delivery services and also claim back the business VAT shown on the postal charges.   

More expensive than what? Well the proof might just be in the pudding. 

Granted there are differing rates on different platforms . 

Parcel2Go -  for a parcel that weighs 2kg is covered up to £25 EVRI tracked £3.32 dropped off .

There is the option to increase insurance cover if required.

Simple Delivery - same parcel and same weight for posting out it will cost with a pre paid eBay label  dropped off at ParcelShop via EVRI £4.05.  

Maths was never my best subject at school,  but  SD  £4.05 -  P2G £3.32 = £0.75p.   

So who benefits from that additional 75p?  Well it certainly isn't the seller who has the joy and cost of packaging the item and dropping it off.  Add thousands of daily parcels if sent through the SD route then that  additional revenue, with Seller protection fees all goes into FeeBays pocket.

Business sellers don't have to use Ebay Simple Delivery and still have a choice of a wide range of couriers.

It was (sort of) suggested by the member I replied to that it was the job of mentors to tell other sellers that SD was in some way more expensive.  (than ... something else?)

I replied to that point by looking at some of my current listings and giving figures from those listings to demonstrate that, in my experience as a seller, that was not the case.  Again, you are quoting prices from parcel2go - maybe that is an option some sellers use, but as a private seller who sells 3 or 4 things a week, I just use Royal Mail and drop off and pay at the Post Office.

And, sorry (I know it's pedantic but I hate a misquote), it's 'the proof of the pudding is in the eating'.

For me, that is quite apt as I have now used Simple Delivery.  My buyer paid £2.72 for tracked delivery when I would have set postage at £3.05 and all went well.  So, for me, the pudding was good, thanks.

This is what I have decided to do. I have been told that Evri ( who I choose ) refund the postage money if the label is not used in two weeks. Seeing as, when I declare Free Postage, the postage label will be charged to me - then I should get that refund. In the meantime I go about posting the way I used to and just enter the real tracking under 'Edit Tracking '.  Let's hope all this nonsense ends soon and we can go back to choosing how we want to post things.

You have to opt out of giving the buyer the choice between Evri and Royal Mail. You must adjust the toggle so that it does not show up blue - then they only have one choice to go with and that's RM.  I am choosing Evri as, I am told, that when I offer the buyer free postage it is then ME who pays for the label. Then, if in two weeks the label ahs not been used, Evri should be sending me that refund.  In the meantime I just go ahead and post the way I used to and for tracking I go through the 'Edit tracking ' option to give the buyer the right tracking.  What a mess -- but I am hoping this will work until ebay give this SD lark the push!!!

That would be perfect if this SD could be reversed but there is no doubt
this is to stay with eBay making a great profit from us and the shares they
hold with evri will go up in value. and times are changing
This is 2025 and we are being blackmailed with SD or nothing can be posted
. You can not get a free label as eBay charges you what they think it will
cost us
. This SD on a sale the seller can not access the buyers details until we
have down loaded the label that we are given With no address we are stuck
between the devil and the deep blue sea .we may moan we may curse but if we
want to sell on eBay it’s SD or nothing for posting
We can only wish or dream to get back to how it was choose are couriers
time and dispatch. But I fear that is too late. So many small private
sellers are leaving .one stated why sell on a sinking ship

Do you remember when you used to pay RM rates but now it's cheaper than RM?

If you offer Free postage and don't use the Simple Delivery label then you will need to claim the refund manually within 14 days.  It is only automatic if the buyer pays.

The refund comes from eBay,  Nothing is refunded to you by Evri as you have no contract with them where Simple Delivery is concerned.

Exactly remember when they gave us £1 listings .yes we keep are monies the
poor buyers are getting ripped off .but Evri re Hermes who deliver broke
chuck over the wall or no sign deliveries
.as a seller of fragile items all you ever get is tears .I would like eBay
to give us a trust worthy courier .but those days are over now the buyer
calls the shots on my sales .and they have to wait awhile for delivery .
all I want is to sell my collectibles have a great courier and get a buyer
who has a lovely smile on there faces when they open my box
there is a down side to most things .but to be treated fairly would go a
long way

It's only cheaper with Royal Mail on up to 2kg parcels. 

Do you remember we used to pay the fee and knew where we stood but now they've introduced buyer protection (which hasn't actually improved buyer protections - it's a fee) which ups the cost of your item so you end up reducing your item price to compensate or charge more and don't see the extra....

Its ebay that want it all ways and are not valuing their immediate customers: us, the sellers and are instead increasing profits from their end buyers, who are the sellers customers...

Check ebays shipping rates table and then check the weights over 2kg for costs...more expensive and the table is showing increased costs for single shipper are also showing incorrect for weight categories (what a mess!). 

Fortunate that you can drop off. Many can't inc disabled and those of us not wanting to burn the planet fuel costs, never mind the time it takes (being a mandatory 3 day dispatch max so can't even time it with a week to 10 day food shop...). 

30p extra for a collection that has to be booked seperately and not covered in ebays SIMPLE (!!!!!) delivery....

No apologies needed. Feel free to be in your words, 'pedantic '... I stand corrected.  

It is all relative and wholly dependant on whether you are a private or business seller  so difficult to do like for like comparisons on pricing or the goods being posted.  Those choices available for postal delivery through eBay also differ between private/business sellers.     

Parcel2Go was used as an example and remains just one of the many on line comparison sites for postal services. Private sellers may already have accounts set up and wish to continue using the best postal/courier service available that offers choice and an accessible customer service.  

The majority of postings on this thread remain reluctant to use one or two specified postal providers now provided by eBay. The title of these postings say it all,  "avoiding simple delivery."  It is a fact that those two options (for private sellers) are not always appropriate or the cheapest available for the goods being posted.

At present advanced options is available so will continue to use that route to post my goods out using the postal service of my choice.  If the SD becomes the only option I will probably just stop selling and buying personal items through eBay. 

My goods, my customers, my choice and the latter is not something I personally wish to relinquish. 

If SD is the better option on the day then I will use it. 

However time will tell on these changes and the impact. What will be will be, the future is not ours to see.

I remember in times past being happy 😁 to give eBay a cut of my personal goods sold. 

It was fair price to pay for the marketing and advertising. You knew where you stood. 

Personally I don't remember paying RM rate but now cheaper than RM.

That would be dependant if you wished to use them for posting your goods, also on the item being posted and its weight compared to other couriers.    

What I object to more is choice being removed on postal services that may 

or may not compromise you depending on whether you are a business or private seller. 

Not forgetting waiting for payment for excessive lengths of time to be paid for goods with eBay holding your money gaining interest.  Then the icing on the cake is the buyers protection fee that is clearly having a significant downturn in people buying.  

Like many private sellers you reduce your prices to accommodate these changes but unfortunately the impact already caused  has eroded confidence in the  eBay marketplace for a large number of business/private sellers and the buying public.

Why print a label ? I don’t, just post item to buyers address, and pay postage myself with stamps.

When I sold my small items on eBay my buyers address etc was not visible to
me eBay said I need to download the label first to gain this info .my Royal
Mail option was not excepted so buyer chose SD evri and I had no choice but
to down load that label

. I try to avoid evri .my bigger things I do on the advantage post this I
can choose .but my free post listings eBay wants to charge me in advance
seller pays .all loop holes are being closed .I am loosing all control on
my items

Buyers are taking over options they think best .I will not sell my fragile
items and send via eBay evri .but without a name and address where can I go
from here ?

Because item was damaged and evri did not deliver saying item is broken
past repair .so returning to seller . So there was no delivery or return
info given to me .so had to wait for refund until eBay contacted them and
as far as I know this vacuum is still on walkabout
