Re: Avoiding Simple Delivery

I have marked this as helpful and gone back into drafting a few new listings with the changes.
If it doesn’t work then prepared to call it a day on the site after receiving one sale in the past two and a half weeks. As a private seller for over 22 years it is pretty much unheard of so these changes with both buyers and sellers it appears overall have not been well received.

However there is no advanced setting feature I can see to taking control of the tracked postage from Simple Delivery. I wish to use my existing choice of couriers via P2Go with an account or Royal Mail and also get a nominal amount to cover my packing costs when posting out.

Please can someone advise with clear instruction step by step on how you do these changes to continue my listings giving me the option to use my own choice of couriers depending on the item I am sending?

On the FAQ on eBay it says you can opt out of SD but hey ho, no details provided on how to do it and if you do list your previous delivery options will be overridden by SD so accepting this format to all future listings .....so it seems.

Many of my items are free postage but not prepared for eBay to control what courier or Royal Mail service I use for my goods to be sent and then add that onto the seller protection fee also. The couriers are paying eBay so they are accumulating a lot of sellers money and then decide when you get paid whilst you are waiting for 100% customer satisfaction.  Not from my experience.

You can please most of the people most of the time but not all of the people all of the time.

Re: Avoiding Simple Delivery

Oops meant to say eBay pays the couriers.
eBay deduct the postal charge from your sales....and the remainder is eventually paid out to you!

Re: Avoiding Simple Delivery

As others said we can use custom postage until and if they make special delivery compulsory. Here’s some pics of each step when listing or revising or sell similar etc

if you want to add for packaging you can increase the actual postage cost too

this is for the website in my selling

the app is a little less complicated

Re: Avoiding Simple Delivery

Thanks for providing all the pictorial stages edwardian -dreams and sure your helpful guidance will be useful to many others on the forum 🙏

However there is no link on delivery to enable me to switch to ‘advanced options’ so either doing something wrong or blinded by a system that is intended to cause unnecessary confusion.

It would be so much simpler to just click with button options what you needed to do I.e. stay as you are with the system you already use or try a new system if it floats your boat.

I don’t think there would be a lot of taking up on the latter  especially when it is has been introduced to financially disadvantage you further as a seller.
I may need to get in touch with a customer agent to spoon feed me through the process!

Re: Avoiding Simple Delivery

I am like you after 20 yrs on eBay I am lost at what is happening to us small private sellers and there buyers. and with SD it’s very controlling. Yes we have free listings but everything else is controlled by ebay

I have tried over the last few days to relist but eBay has blocked my courier to use even free post it was £18.85 eBay wanted to take off me

so having no joy I decided to do sell similar and that gave me my postal choices .where eBay sits I clicked advanced settings and opened up postage option clicked that and my couriers were all there and chose my RM 48 tracked option on this item. £3.55 brillant

as a buyer this week I bought a vacuum got charged with buyer protection seller set it via SD last week it went from delivery smashed then delivery then smashed I and the seller have no clue where it is

so I can not have a refund until it shows up

no promise of if it’s lost or broke will will cover it said eBay said Bol———— they told him to sort it with Evri he has £20 not £281 how ? SD has chucked him under the bus

Re: Avoiding Simple Delivery

To be honest, this is all fairly simple even though it has to be done on every new listing. When listing a new item, when you reach the postage section, click on "Switch to advanced options". The SD will disappear and then you have a drop down list of EVERYTHING else you can use. I do all this on a PC because I'm not stupid enough to try and get ALL the options on a mobile phone. )No offense intended). You can also then just option for Free Postage which is what I do. It can't be simpler.

I find feeBay a bit like George Lucas and the original Star Wars movies.

Constant meddling, fiddling and editing.

Re: Avoiding Simple Delivery

After struggling through the maze wasting a lot of time and intent on not being thwarted I realised from the forum that there are a number of variations on the information displayed. I guess some are using iPhones, personal computers or iPads and the format shown could vary on the item being posted.

I was using the latter and in my drafts was able to upload one item with selecting my own tracked label that includes the cost of packing the item. However in another draft (same iPad) it wasn’t allowing me to use another carrier of my choice and overriding my policy for postage delivery to SD. That gave me the option of just Royal Mail and Evri so decided to try free postage but the link was greyed out!

I have decided to do my listings through the personal computer as there may be some consistency through that route to achieve what should be in eBay words ‘ simple.’

Simple in MHO only defines the eBay cited ‘clowns’ who are clearly intent on disadvantaging private sellers who helped build their company. Without the army of private sellers the site would be just retailers mimicking the likes of Amazon and other online businesses and becomes of little interest to a great many buyers who are collectors, vintage hunters,  homemakers and those looking for the ultimate bargain.

Re: Avoiding Simple Delivery

That’s what eBay has forgot it was us small sellers who put eBay on the
road and gave them there bread and butter
This went on for years are names were there on bidding and the buyers had
many choices
Then eBay took everything away siting money laundering

Then when eBay took over for good we lost are PayPal accounts where we
could if need be refund some post etc
Then they took part of are money off postage total sale plus postage in one
.because some sellers were hiking postage and 99p items.
They knew who these sellers were but choose to go across the board .so
every one was charged
and left us small sellers to put the loss down to us and we pay the list
goes on

There is so much bad on eBay now .and as usual it’s us small sellers and
there lovely buyers which are paying the cost.
Why oh why does eBay have to take the last control on are items the post .
I care which couriers take my items .I care that every buyer has a smile on
there face opening my box .but now the worst the dreadful the only courier
who does not give a damm is now shaking hands with the devil .
they should just leave us alone .and treating us fairly is not hard .we
stood by them for years before there boots got to big
But it’s all about money grabbing
How the hell can they charge me £18.85 upfront when it’s free post that’s
my label not there’s
So many things have gone on in the years I have been a member .they said if
we moaned about it just stop selling .some body will take your place.

20 years I have paid my dues as a seller and spent loads as a buyer but
that’s still not enough .

Re: Avoiding Simple Delivery

I have a new trick eBay is playing just tried free post for one of my
collectables and guess what they said the price is £18.85 which will be
taken out of my sale
What the hell the free post label is mine .I will pay what it costs and
with my courier and tracked insured if need be .but that is my choice not
there’s what if it cost £8 will they refund me not a chance .it will just
say free post
You never know now before relist how eBay has
taken control over it until you try .its like doing time in the old ages
controlled from above

Re: Avoiding Simple Delivery

Yes, so easy using the 'advanced' option, to continue charging buyers the EXACT postage the seller pays.. simples.         Surprised Ebay have made it so easy.

Re: Avoiding Simple Delivery

EBay has not cotton on that some of us know thanks to members that we
still have are couriers are prices and as it should
The thought of going via Evri does not sit well either .I have collected my
lovely things over many years and SD Evri scares me as this to me is the
courier from hell
Irelisted an item and eBay was all over it .my free post had £18.85 seller
to pay what the hell it’s my label my courier so how are they working this
prize
The cost to be £8 will they refund me of course not
If are things get broke we have to contact Evri gods sake they pay out £20
.it seems buyers are being looked after but sellers are under the bus
.whereabouts is the sellers £260
This one I know my new vacuum it got smashed to bits .then sent back to
seller then being delivered but then damaged again sent back to seller
over 4days .eBay told him contact Evri HOW disgusting treatment and no
respect shown

Re: Avoiding Simple Delivery

There were clearly many so called private sellers out there who were not. So eBay put everybody in the same boat and tarred them with the same brush. It was a way to implement sweeping changes. However it would have been easy for eBay to just remove those suspected or were reported from their site.  They chose to ignore it lining their deep pockets from the bogus private sellers on the site until government intervention.

However all these changes eBay have introduced are certainly bound to cause confusion, upset and disarray when clear guidance is lacking, hidden or misguided.  That is the intention and more about FeeBay and its increasing greed by whatever means they can.

This was easily achieved by setting up with Apollo International who are an American equity firm that owns EVRI and eBay has shares in this multi national company and what remains as Royal Mail (now sold by our government)  who robbed honest postmasters in the UK. That says it all.

We remain little fish in a big pond so it is the sink or swim scenario for us that decide to remain or find fresh waters.

Re: Avoiding Simple Delivery

For the last week I noticed custom delivery had appeared back on the eBay app and is still there to use today (19th April). If you click on the box that says simple delivery then the custom delivery with all courier options pops up underneath it. Three days before their “d day for simple delivery only”  due to start 15th April, all the custom deliveries suddenly disappeared without any warning, email info etc and I wondered what was happening. Then, as I said, a week ago they all appeared again but they don’t make it easy as you only get the simple delivery showing up until you click on the box and then custom delivery appears underneath it.
This is the biggest mess in history of online trading and I don’t know if they realise this and have added it back due to complaints, or if the CMA have got involved and told them to add it back. Zero info sent out to anybody and many people don’t realise that custom postage is now back and currently able to use. I removed all my listings and am waiting to see if this is permanent or just another huge mess as they are using us as lab rats and really don’t care how much misery they have caused because of their greed. Hope you find custom postage and can still use it where you are.

Re: Avoiding Simple Delivery

Before Apr. 15, I had contacted eBay's CS, and I was clearly told that other delivery methods can be selected if you click on 'collection only' first,  then 'postgae only'. and then the option of 'custom postage' will show up next to SD.

shanm_9847_0-1745104273059.png

This is so dumb!

It's obvious that SD isn't mandatory anymore, why did eBay keep saying that before?

And which genuis designed this new interface? Why not just put 'custom postage' next to SD without clicking on this and that?

Re: Avoiding Simple Delivery

That info will be helpful to those private sellers who remain just on the border of no return to leaving eBay for good or listing anything further,  so thanks elabam- 42. 🙏

I have sold a few items over the last month but truly believe that buyers are being put off from spending including myself!

Of course eBay are monitoring the forums and yes do concur  we are lab rats exposing the weakness in their new systems so they can ‘tweek’ them along the wibbly, wobbly way.

It appears quite  a few have had their alerts from HMRC and will pull all my listings down when I reach the threshold. Why does eBay still continue to highlight to private sellers that they could list up to 3000 listings a year and on request get that extended! A private seller selling that  amount of stuff is a business seller and they know that, so why continue to promote it  and try to compromise the genuine private sellers.

So if the limit is supposedly 30 items you can sell in a year or the £1000 threshold then why not be rigid and stick to it for those registered as private or the £ 1,700 level  met and individuals messaged by eBay before reporting you to HMRC for taxation purposes. I am constantly being sent messages by eBay to finish uploading my 25 listed drafts but will hang fire as that could take me over the threshold...if I was lucky enough to sell .....arghhhhhh.  What a dilemma.

It remains a mystery why eBay in their so called wisdom have  set out to alienate not only private sellers who were the foundation of their success  but also the buying public.  Confidence is already eroded by a system that singles out private sellers ( who happen to be buyers as well) so the downward spiral is likely to have a significant knock on effect in the business marketplace.
