Many do think the same, going by the many long disgruntled threads from members, over at the Discussion Board, but Simple delivery is here to stay for Private sellers.
The issue of not being able to combine postage for buyers is affecting many, you are not alone.
Some sellers are leaving a message on their listing, for example..... ' If you wish to buy multiple items, please let me know before buying, I will relist them as one listing so only one postage cost is charged, combining postage is not currently possible. '
