I am furious. Ebay have doubled my postage costs to buyers through so called 'Simple Delivery'. Example: Item under £9, weighing under 100grms large letter, they are charging buyers £2.70. I charge £1.55 Royal Mail. Ebay representatives tell me to select free postage and add postage costs onto item along with their insurance fees. What chance do i have in selling competitively?

This is really scammy and underhanded. Ebay is charging a buyer double what the postage actually costs. I asked support and they said there's insurance but Royal Mail will already pay for lost/damaged packages under a certain value.
I'm no longer going to be selling on eBay

HI.
I believe this is due to E bay wanting items to be tracked to ensure you are paid.
I have noticed that some items can't be send using the 100g large letter (£1.55) as they aren't always scanned meaning the money won't go into you available balance. I have an item still pending (after months) as it is "awaiting delivery" ie the postman/women didn't scan to say it was delivered. In this case I have lost the value of the item (assumable) and still paid the postage,

Ebay support told me it was to do with insurance but Royal Mail compensate for loss of items. I wouldn't mind using simple postage if it wasn't ripping people off.

This was the exact subject i was looking for yesterday when i was asking why i couldn't find the option for 100g large letter at £1.55, it seems to post a dvd costing under £10 i simply have to pay £2.72 to post it, i tend to do free delivery.
No amount of clicking on custom postage, and trying to choose is getting me anywhere, it's stuck on 1kg large letter.

Welcome to the nightmare called Simple Delivery. They are charging that because eBay want everything tracked. You no longer have the choice. But if your chosen delivery service (in our case RM) won't send it tracked, then eBay's Stupid Delivery can't either. I have stopped selling after 16 years because of this debacle. They have also decided that you have a maximum 3 days turnaround to post your item too, which if you have a job is often not possible. When you combine all this with the buyer protection fee and hanging onto your money until the item is delivered, eBay are definitely giving the impression that they just want private sellers to jog on.

It really is outrageous that they think sellers and buyers will put up with this for long.
I only sell after a clear out and haven't got the option to opt of this stupidly expensive 'simple delivery' on the listing page. It charged £5.15 RM label for some Tshirts I sold at £11 !! Fortunately I used the buyer's address to get a label directly from RM for £3.35 with their standard cover for £20 so no 'ebay insurance' necessary.
Problem now is that it won't let me cancel the auto label. So currently hoping the 'void label' option will appear in a couple of days.
Simple delivery is such a scam.

Thank you will give that a go. It's infuriating they don't show the price you're about to pay before generating the label otherwise I'd of never gone through with it!
Does look like it's easier to just cancel the transaction & relist for the buyer though.

Hi, was the label you bought from RM for £3.35 for a tracked service or an untracked service?
I do have a reason for asking, which I'll explain if I get a reply!

Hi, aren't all RM services tracked, barring regular letter or if a stamp's used? I've always been able to check delivery status using the tracking code on the label.
But, having checked prices on RM I think it generated a 48hr no signature medium parcel label instead of small parcel and not sure if that's my fault or not!

Hello there, thanks for posting, but my question was directed to inknook.
Because you replied to my question I initially thought that you and inknook were the same person with two posting IDs, but that can't be the case as you replied to inknook with a link to the refund request page!
The reason I was asking inknook if they used a tracked or untracked service is because the refund request page lists four conditions that need to be fulfilled in order to receive a refund for the unused (paid by seller) SD label. One of these conditions is that a tracked service was used to send the item.
So, on the face of it, it looks like eBay will reject the request if an untracked service was used. However, as far as I'm aware, nobody has yet reported on the boards that they arranged their own postage for an SD-eligible item (listed as 'Seller pays postage'), used an untracked service, requested a refund for the unused SD label, and had the request accepted or rejected - so this is untested.
It could be that eBay would issue the refund in the above scenario, despite the tracked service condition stated on the request page - after all, they aren't always consistent, even when it comes to their own policies.
It could be that the only negative consequence in the above scenario would be the seller having to wait longer for payment, but the fact that using a tracked service is given as a specific condition on the refund request page certainly gives the unavoidable impression that it is indeed a requirement (if you want the refund) - otherwise, why mention it?
So, if inknook used an untracked service, I was going to ask them if they would kindly return to this thread to let us know whether eBay accepted or refused the refund request.
I have a personal interest in this due to having loads of stamps that I want to use to post items. If a tracked service is indeed a requirement for the SD label refund, then I still can't use them even if I 'bypass' SD (unless I'm prepared to lose out on the SD label fee). The only possible exception might be if stamps are used for RM 1st/2nd Class Signed For (not standard 1st/2nd) - a poster intriguingly suggested on another thread that eBay's system might accept the number/code that comes with this service as a tracking number - but again, there seems to be no precedent for this. And even this is far from straightforward: even if this number/code could be entered to over-write the auto-applied SD tracking number, eBay could still say that RM 1st/2nd Class Signed For is not, strictly speaking, a tracked service, and refuse the refund on that basis.
This is just one aspect of SD that raises my shackles, the fact (at least it appears to be a fact) ) that even if sellers can 'bypass' SD on SD-eligible items, they are still effectively forced into using a tracked service (because, if they don't, then eBay will not refund the unused label fee).
I'd like to seek clarification on all this in the weekly chat, but frustratingly, haven't had an opportunity yet (and I won't be able to ask next Wednesday either). Even if I could, previous chat sessions don't give me much confidence that I would get a clear, correct and definitive answer. In the meantime, I'm keeping a close eye on the forums to see if anyone reports on getting a refund (in the specific circumstances detailed above).

Thanks for coming back with a reply.
Sounds like you did indeed use a tracked service, so, assuming you met the other three conditions listed on the refund request page, you should have no issues getting your money back for the unused SD label.
I'll patiently wait to see if a seller gets a refund even though they used an untracked service. If I were actively selling, I'd try it myself as an experiment (and report back on the forums), rather than waiting to hear about other sellers' experiences, but as it stands, BPF and SD (and, to no lesser degree, eBay's apparent contempt for private sellers) have destroyed any enthusiasm I might have had for listing stuff.

Apologies for hijacking the thread. My aim this morning was to have RM collect the parcel with my RM label and cancel the SD label by marking it uncollected. Their doorstop PDA won't allow it!! Apparenty system says it's all booked colletions or none!! Now in limbo whilst my lovely postie takes the parcel back to his boss who assured him on the phone he can sort it at the dept. Stressed how I don't want the uncollected one marked as taken or I won't get the label refunded :-0 What an absolute pain.

Can i just settle one point
When simple delivery is used it is not the seller that pays it is the buyer.
So if they are happy paying the cost to ebay then nothing to worry about.
The problem is most of the buyer are older accounts so they know what traditionally the total price should be, when they see a price, plus the bpf plus the simple postage, that puts them off as you can not get a bargain from private sellers anymore.
It doesn't solve your problem but its a point of view what is wrong with the problem.
It remind me of the new manager syndrome, they come in change everything because they want to impress their manager, then everything goes wrong an d it all has to be changed back. only in this case ebay aren't going to admit their mistake.

Except that the listed BN price is usually linked to the postage cost. I expected around £3.50 postage so listed with that in mind otherwise I'd of upped it another few £.
I agree existing members familiar with the pre-April-SD 2025 system might be going down fighting, but old dogs can learn new tricks & still hate them 😄
Just sad to see eBay wanting to clone Vinted's policies.

I got this to work at 10pm 30th June.
Sell similar (from a listing with custom postage.
List without changing anything.
Revise adding images and changing text: but DON’T change the headline “item category”(which must remain wrong).
