So I've sold a few low value items lately( £1 to £125) and I've noticed that eBay are changing final value fees on the postage and packaging cost. For example, the higher value item I sold had a total cost of £130.32 inclusive of postage & packaging. I was charged a final value fee of 10.67% on the £130.32 NOT the £125 that was actually bid. I think this is theft! That postage and packaging cost doesn't go to us, especially if the service used is eBay's own. As sellers we're essentially paying them the actual cost of the p&p paid AS WELL AS extra from the cost of the item. Absolutely disgusted. I don't think I'll be selling things on here again. I will be looking to sell elsewhere. Anybody have any recommendations? Feel free to message me with replies privately.

Yes, I understand that's the fee structure... but I was pointing to your comment that you don't have to buy postage through eBay. Whatever method you use to ask the buyer to pay postage, it will invoke the P&P cost being included in the listing and therefore the fees, so even if you don't use ebay's postal service thing , you still get the fee inclusive of P&P.
I don't use the ebay link to buy postage, but I purchase it via Royal Mail themselves (as I send things from other places too, and it's easier for me to have them all in the same account) - but I still get eBays fees based on P&P, even though eBay have nothing to with that element.
The only way around it is to offer free postage and pay the postage costs yourself, or ask the buyer to arrange the postage collection themselves once they've paid for the item's listing price (which would involve putting something in the description to say you're going to ask for that, and then there's all the hassle of ensuring that they arrange the collection at a time that's suitable for you - which, to me, is much more hassle than just doing it myself).
It's simply an unfair fee which eBay shouldn't be charging for, unless there is reason to suspect that something dodgy is going on with inflated postage costs.

It’s worth pointing out that if you purchase postage via eBay you can't make a claim with Royal Mail if anything happens, you have to go through eBay instead!

No, that is not correct. If you purchase Royal Mail or Parcelforce postage via eBay then you still claim directly from Royal Mail/Parcelforce.
If you use a courier such as Evri or UPS and purchase the carriage on EBay via Packlink then any claim has to be made through Packlink.

Yeah, that's another good reason to do direct with Royal Mail/Parcel Force/other.
And I can get them to bring me a label (haven't run through the eBay label thing to the end, but from a quick glance it didn't look like that option was there, but I might be wrong).

You are wrong!!! I've just had a letter from Royal Mail directly saying claims received for postage purchased via eBay will be declined and you have to go through eBay! So unless you're disputing Royal Mail themselves then sorry, you're wrong!

Well, that has never been the case previously so, until I see any actual evidence to the contrary I will continue to dispute it.
Maybe Royal Mail think you are the buyer/recipient rather than the seller/sender?

Royal Mail know exactly who I am, I've made that very clear! They said on this occasion as a goodwill gesture they will do it, but any future claims will be rejected! I can upload the letter if you want actual evidence.
I'm just telling you what Royal Mail have said in writing!

It's you that's not reading properly! People were discussing purchasing postage through eBay, so I was adding to the discussion by saying you also can't claim through Royal Mail if you purchase postage through eBay

I would certainly be interested in seeing the letter that you have received as I have not seen any announcement regarding any changes to the current process.

Oh I'm sorry, maybe I was mistaken but I'm pretty sure you wasn't the initial creator of this thread, so maybe you should post your own question rather than reply my to an old thread!

They should be able to get done for this. If you list something and select the postage to be paid by the buyer, and select the exact postage cost for the relevant postage option and then purchase the postage label through ebay, then they are effectively charging more for the fee on the sold item than they advertise.
The idea for charging fees on the total cost was to stop people listing a low item cost and putting on high postage to be exempt for fees. But this has gone the wrong way; with honest pricing for postage is now screwing over the seller, whom I guess is forced to change more for postage to cover the greedy evilbay fee on it. Then you're likely to get negative feedback for high postage costs.
Does my head in, I will never list on evilbay without a fee discount, give as little money to them as I can.

Do you read every word in every T&C you get? I hate it when ppl quote this *bleep*.

Why? They not allowed to ask a question? You're entitled to not answer and go about your day.

They wouldn't need to, all they would have to do is take postage out of the sellers responsibility. EBay already has a good link with the postal services and the UTD cost, they can even sell you the labels.
The seller should just select the postage options they want available for the buyer to pay. EBay then charges the buyer for your item and then the postage cost, send you the money and requires the relevant tracking in exchange for seller protection. Or to make it even easier you have to buy the postage label through ebay, you don't even get hold of that money. Similar to how PayPal don't even give you the funds for the fee cost on a G&S sale.

I try and sell as much on Vinted as possible now and other market places like Facebook!
on Vinted the buyer pays the postage and the seller gets e-mailed the shipping label or QR code, plus they charge zero fees!
I really don't know where eBay get off charging what they charge and I wish to god everyone would start boycotting them, but it won't happen and so they will continue to get away with daylight robbery!
