Ridiculous new payment regulations
Like many other private sellers I sell probably once or twice a year to sell surplus clothes either brand new and not worn ( ok I admit I do love buying clothes mostly from major stores with an online presence) and like to think I am enabling other people to enjoy items that are just taking up tight wardrobe space.
So in the winter I sold a few items and immediately had a 48 hour waiting period slapped on me as I hadn't sold anything for a few months. This was despite me having 100% positive feedback and having been a seller / buyer for 11 years!
After a few transactions this month I still had a few items to sell and decided to sell these but I changed the bank account I was using to another one purely for ease. Both major UK banks I have to say and I got another 48 hour withhold notice. Here we go again I thought - and then suddenly this changed to a week! This ended yesterday and you've guessed it -no money available for withdrawal.
So I decided to get in touch with them and an agent called me from outside the UK who basically couldn't understand me. Typical scenario from a non native English speaker, just kept repeating the same scripted responses, didn't answer my question and eventually realised that what I was saying was correct and said I would ‘probably’ receive the cleared funds tomorrow!
As so many others are saying ebay are ringing a death bell for private sellers - not just because of this, but because of the buyers protection fee that ironically the seller is charged! But also re the new delivery procedures where y the seller is not paid for at least 48 hours after a buyer has received a bought item. Anyone living in the UK knows the service one gets from couriers leaves a lot to be desired so now us sellers will be penalised for that! Ever tried to claim from a courier for a late / damaged or for an item that didn’t turn up? Again the private seller will take the hit.
So sad that the model ebay started out with of being for private sellers is now so flawed that many private sellers like me will just stop dealing with them and will use Amazon and FB Marketplace more.
Not least in the climate of sustainability, small time private sellers will be strangled by these crazy new policies hindering them from recycling ostensibly pre loved or unwanted goods. Shame that such a huge organisation is putting sustainable practices at such low priority.
