Receiving funds for item sent Royal Mail 2nd Class

I went to post a DVD at the post office with Royal Mail Second Class service on 3rd December 2024, but the lady at the post office refused my parcel as it was too heavy for the postage label I had paid for. She told me to go home and void the eBay label and she would send the parcel with a new label, which I paid for in the post office. I immediately voided the label on eBay as instructed and marked the item as dispatched. However it has now been 15 days since dispatch and I still haven’t got my funds, and the item isn’t marked as delivered. Please understand I am new to selling so am unsure what to do now.

First question which service did you pay for basic second class or with some form of tracking?

Thanks for your question. It was basic second class, as this was what was offered to me at the post office.

If it was sent 2nd class large letter then you don't have tracking so won't ever be able to prove delivery

If it was send small parcel there will be a 13 digit reference number on the receipt which proves delivery. All small parcels come with free delivery confirmation. 

As you didn't use the original label the tracking number from it won't ever show as delivered

Can you just double check you definitely voided the label?

Thank you for taking the time to reply and for explaining. I have a receipt with the reference number, do I input this somewhere on eBay? I have just double checked by clicking ‘Manage postage’ and a message appears reading ‘Label void has been requested with the courier. Refunds can take between a few days to a couple of weeks to be processed by the courier’. As it has been over 2 weeks, I was just concerned as to when this would happen. I am relatively new to selling on eBay and this was my first Royal Mail postage.

I do not buy my labels through eBay / Packlink,  but understand they can take up to 21 days to process.

Enter the delivery confirmation number into Royal Mail tracking and see what it says

If it hasn't been delivered yet it will say something like 

"Tracking will be updated once delivery has been made"

Or it may show delivery has already taken place

"Tracking" (not really tracking but you know what I mean) will only be updated once delivery has been attempted 

If the buyer opens a case you will need to input the reference number into the case to prove delivery.

Given the size of a DVD am I correct in thinking that it was sent as a Large Letter rather than regular 2nd Class, which has a maximum permitted depth of 5mm? If so you should be able to track the Barcode Number on the PO receipt - it will be a combination of 11 digits and characters, in an approximate format of nnnnnnnnxnx

If you enter the Barcode Number in the Track facility on royalmail.com then you should (assuming it was scanned on delivery) be able to see if it has been delivered.

I'm guessing the item has not been marked as delivered on eBay because the system is checking for updates of the original, now-cancelled, label. I think you may need to update the original eBay reference number to the actual barcode number on the PO receipt, though how you do that I know not - hopefully someone with knowledge of that particular issue can assist.

Thank you so much for your reply and your advice, I have found this very useful. It was sent 2nd Class Large Letter. I used the reference number to track the parcel on royalmail.com and it was marked as delivered 2 weeks ago today. I phoned EBay and was advised to input the Royal Mail tracking number into the ‘add tracking’ option on my order details on the eBay app. The man told me I should now receive my funds within 3 days. Thank you again for your help.
