I’m a private seller looking to change to a shop ? So due to the private sellers having to wait for their funds to clear which in most cases takes between 2-4 days plus…. I thought moving across to a shop it would give me better options not only for selling but mainly to have my funds released on payment from the buyer = no waiting for parcels to be delivered …plus the 2 days also,
However I spoke to the Germany spokesperson today and I have got it completely wrong ….
Business accounts I was told still have to wait the exact time for payment as the private sellers … business accounts will receive their funds once the item is delivered plus the 2 days… a basic business/ shop will cost 19.99 and you receive a shop front, and basically that’s where it ends for the pro’s , yes you may well get more traffic and views for sure…
if your a private seller …. It’s all free no listing or sale fees at the end ..
so please can anyone share with me their experiences as a basic shop and what the actual benefits are?
please do not quote me with your a private seller and you need to change to a business account because I’m running a reseller account . To eBay this doesn’t matter , it only matter to HMRC which you can still do your tax returns whether your a private seller or business seller.
many thanks in advance for your advice

As a business seller, based on your number of listings you would probably go for a featured shop £77pm plus VAT. The basic shop (which is £27 plus VAT) won’t be big enough unless you cut the number of listings you have down.
Your eBay payouts can be daily as a business seller. As far as I know that is unchanged. The person you spoke to at eBay has confused a few things.

Just to correct myself, it may the that you could have the basic shop of £32.40 inc VAT and then pay 12p per additional listing and that will cost you less than a featured shop. It won’t be much less though.
Financially it will hurt a bit but legally you would be compliant by being business registered on eBay.

I think either you or the CS adviser are confusing the two things, shop front and being a business seller account.
Just opening a shop you will still be a private seller with all the new rules around it.
Switching to being a business account will give you the quicker access to funds, no buyer protection fees etc.

The CS advisor needs re-training.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post and answer, yes I do think they obviously didn’t understand my position and how I want to move forward. Not at any stage did she discard the business account , so is this different to the shop… can I just register as a business account using a private sellers platform ? My sales are so up and down and spending more on a shop I’m not quite sure it would be worth my while. This side of things I’m very unsure, so listening and taking advice from experienced ebayers like yourself is so valuable and very much appreciated.
thank you Nicky

Good evening and thank you for taking the time to reply, yes the lady never mentioned a business account , we only spoke about opening a shop and how to increase my sales. I did mention the eBay holding funds and I presumed opening a shop I would get paid immediately and she said no all shops at all levels will follow this new ruling. That’s when I thought wow how can people open a shop pay for the extra fees and not have payment . This I thought makes no sense and now can it entice new people to open up shops.
may I ask if your a shop , have you noticed with your sales that you have sold much more with your shop since being a private seller.
kind regards Nicky

As soon as you convert to a business account, one way or another you’ll have to pay just to list items for sale on eBay before you even make a sale. It is very different to a private account as far as the fees go. A private seller shop subscription wouldn’t make you business registered on eBay, a lot of confusion lies in that distinction.
The link I gave above does break it all down for business accounts, it makes sense once you get your head around it. I’m not going to sugar coat it, a business account can seem expensive when you are used to free listing and selling fees on a private account.
It may be worth looking on ebayfeescalculator.com, change the seller type to business and work out what you would get on an average sale. Then add the monthly shop fee on top and work out if it is going to be sustainable to trade on here legally. If not there are other platforms that have zero selling fees for business sellers.
