Re: Photo ID

Does your birth certificate exactly match your bank details etc?

I am [retty sure it was said before they must match......even though most women will have at some point changed their name through marriage or whatever

Re: Photo ID

The UK has no Government Photo I.D

We are a " free" country.  We do not need or should have an I.D. this is what " they" want a digital Gov I.D. to monitor everything you do. It is a No from me and should be from anyone who cares about their privacy and to live unencumbered from interference which is embedded in our English " constitutional" Laws ... Not legislation - legislation is NOT Law. People need to research and learn their true rights. ( and before anyone says we don't have a " constitution " we do, and it is where America gets theirs from, America had theirs " written into law" 2nd amendments etc .  We do not, but we do have the original... Bill of Rights, Magna Carta ,Bills of Exchange... these are ALL Primary Laws  and cannot be altered or removed..( they have tried and failed as those laws are set in stone and without there could be no Gov or Royalty)  all Gov can do is bring in "legislation" ( secondary) ... We the people " made"  Government to protect us and our Country, the people came first.

I am old enough to have been taught these in school, before they were removed from the curriculum.

There is far too much to write here, and I only offer this for some information and ask you to research for yourself.

History can teach us so much, especially in this day and age.

Once my generation is gone - our children of today and tomorrow  will not be aware of their true rights, sadly and forced through " planned" ignorance to live a live monitored, surveilled, restricted, and probably in fear. Not something I would wish to see.

Ebay cannot ask for what you cannot provide.

You are a private individual and for any corporate to have dealings with you, they are required to have a contract - a contract is " agreed" between two parties. It is not a dictatorship.

If you accept this, then you are agreeing to their  terms, and you have the right to protect your private information. Remember this.

Passports and/or Driving License ( valid) are usually accepted forms. i.e to open a bank account, travel abroad  or drive a vehicle.

Everyone does not have a passport or drives.

A government  letter ( with private details redacted) showing your name and address IS sufficient.

This is what I did - it was accepted and if eBay are refusing you or restricting your account when you have already jumped through their " identity" checks ie. bank accounts, verifications, good standing account for xyz years etc etc...they are preventing you for something which you cannot provide - this is coercion.    What they want is your National Insurance number and say it is for Government purposes ( legislation) ... Gov and Big Businesses are joining together ( and have for a long time) to put in place all of these types of " for your Safety, Verify, Identity ( prove who you are ) etc etc.  They dress it up and call them " policies" and/or legislation....You are not an employee and have  rights as a private human being. Further it is so they can move to a " digital age"  system whereby everything is " automated"... by holding your personal details (and now your face) , this makes it easier for a " computer to say, yes NO!" ( this is not just eBay either, this is every big corporate and they are sharing and selling your data)

You are not a photograph, a reference number nor are you a piece of paper.

Birth Certs state on them " this is not a form of identity " this is  because you were born a living human being and have the right to protect your individual self.

This message requires no response, I am not asking for you to agree to what I say, it is offered as  stand alone information simply to assist and for people to think and research for themselves.

Edit - spelling, I may have missed some 😉

Re: Photo ID

The UK have no Government issued IDENTITY cards, and we never should!

A birth certificate is not a form of identity. ( it even states this on it)

They are doing this to get your "face"... Driving license or Passport.

Not everyone holds these  - eBay are asking for something which not everyone can provide.

Reiterate this - IF you have a Government letter , use this and redact your private information - as long as it is showing your name and address and that matches your bank account and your registration details when opening your eBay account - that IS sufficient.

Re: Photo ID

I don't have a driving licence for personal reasons nor do I have a passport. I have tried to upload birth certificate, Garda ID card (I live in Ireland) bank statements ect and not one have been  accepted.  I've been with ebay since 2009 and they have been holding €640 for me since the end of January 2024 . It is now December over 300 days have passed and I'm still no further on. This is so wrong . I have no idea what to do and I can't even speak to a human . I'm totally disgusted.  I have all positive feedback and have never encountered any problems with ebay . I am unable to get a drivers license or passport so what do I do I ask ??

Re: Photo ID

I am so sorry to hear of this... If your bank is verified and matches your registration with eBay that should be enough and you should have received your funds when your items sold.

When did they inform you that they wanted more information from you?

When did they first put a " hold" on your funds? and did they give a reason why?

You really need to speak with an actual human being customer service agent "...and push for your funds to be released...

You tell them you do not hold what they are asking for and that the U.K does not have a Government Identity card for its citizens., and never has.

Do you have a government tax letter at all? One which shows your name and address that matches with the registration on eBay.  If you do,  redact your private info and upload that and tell them that you are going to take legal advice as they are holding your monies under a pretence of you have to supply a Photo ID.. one of which the UK does not and never has, that you do not drive and do not have a passport as you do not travel and there must be contingencies for people who do not posses these otherwise they are discriminating and using coercion to hold what belongs to you under false pretences.

Re: Photo ID

No reason was giving only that I had the red banner over my funds stating
funds on hold until you update your id . I had been a customer on ebay for
16 years without any issues but the moment I started selling within 6 weeks
,BANG ! We have a problem. We want to Rob your money more like it . Yet I
can still buy from ebay ?? . So if anyone thinks they can only hold your
funds for 180 days think again . I'm on day 320? Something. They are
terrible.

Re: Photo ID

Below is eBay response for identity checks -

This is a normal verification process that all sellers have to go through at some stage. Normally, the accepted ID method is a passport, driving license, or any government issued ID national card. If you don't have any of these documents, you can upload UK birth certificate and proof of address instead of Photo ID. Please note that when uploading documents, you need to upload a clear picture in full (so, the information on it can be read, and no information is cut off the picture). Also, if you decide to upload the birth certificate with proof of address, please note that the proof of address can be any bill with your name on it, and it can't be more than 3 months old.

Alternatively, you can apply for any of the ID documents and upload it once you have it. Once you upload the information requested, and everything is confirmed, any restrictions placed due to the nature of this problem will be removed.

Thank you,

Marco@eBay

As eBay states above - I would send proof of address and UK birth cert ( even though it states on your birth cert that it is not proof of id. ) I would not trust your important documents on " file" anywhere especially an online marketplace. It is an absolute liberty when all the checks were done on opening our accounts and said account is in good standing.

Just my opinion.

Re: Photo ID

How long does the verification process take? Where or how do we see the status of the verification?

I was asked and tried to take a pic of my passport and I don't think it was good enough but had clicked done before I realised.

I'm sending out a guitar worth a grand tomorrow with ebay having me in this verification process; but no update, I'm a bit worried that even with tracking and likely feedback, ebay will just sit and hold the funds until they decide to sort it....

Not really impressed.

Re: Photo ID

For the purposes of money laundering rules etc voter id is not accepted generally.

I am 100% sure its not acceptable when purchasing a house which needs a mortgage.

I have a Voter id and its not accepted generally and thats why i recently had to renew my expired passport.

Re: Photo ID

Just to add if anyone is thinking of applying for a photo id driving licence.

I recently sent off to change mine to a photo one.    A friend of over 30 years who is qualified to sign the back of the photos and form helped me 🙂     It was rejected and returned to me!     Why?   because she has a passport and driving licence BUT her driving licence is not a photo one.    Make sure whoever signs the form and photos has a photo licence themselves or the application will be rejected.

Re: Photo ID

I've noticed marco@ebay hasn't responded to my questions.

I've since been asked to verify again so I sent a much better photo of my passport. Heard nothing so contacted support. Agent said it would be reviewed within 48 hours. After 36 hours I get another template email saying the same as the last. Surely someone can actually say what the issue is or I'll be stuck in this verification loop forever...

So I've just sent photos of my driving licence. Let's see if this changes anything.

I think I'm cancelling current listings because it's just handing money over to ebay to hold onto for however long they decide to mess me about.
