Hi, I've been selling on Ebay as a private seller for over 20 years. I got an offer for a projector that's been listed for several weeks and I accepted to get rid of it. The buyer emailed me and said it would take £100 over his budget due VAT being added. This his the first I've ever heard about this. I contacted Ebay and they said that was correct. I don't know if it's always been the case, but I've never noticed it before for anything I've bought or sold, and I've sold items well over £500 before. I bought it from America in December and paid extortionate shipping fees and a Custom VAT fee, it seems pretty unfair to have VAT added to the sale again. Looks like I'll lose the sale now. Any advice would be appreciated.

If buyer is non UK, then they pay VAT & import for their country.
This is buyers problem, nothing you can do as the seller.

Looks like a weird glitch to me, and eBay has decided that Scotland is outside of the UK!!
I'm also seeing VAT being charged for me when I view your items (from London!), see screenshot below.
Contact eBay and let then know there's an issue and ask what they can do to help with the sale.
I’ve found that the easiest route to contact eBay Customer Services is via the link below where you can request a call back.

Thank you very much for checking that for me. I have contacted ebay 3 times, they agree that VAT should not be applied. I'm waiting on the buyers response.
