If everyone who posted here to complain about this would contact eBay about it they might look at accepting other options.
That said, as eBay doesn't have a complaints procedure and it's policy on suggestions is that they don't accept suggestions this speaks volumes for their attitude to customer concerns.
This is eBay's site and they make the rules, and clearly don't want the bother of checking other forms of ID. The simple answer is to is to make the sale of bladed items by credit card only.
