Hi everyone,
I’m in a tricky situation and would love your input. Here’s what happened:
I bought an HTC Vive on eBay and provided an accurate shipping address. However, the seller sent it to the wrong address. Initially, I confused this with another HTC Vive I bought from Gumtree and filed a return for overheating. Later, I realized the box had the Gumtree seller’s name on it.
I now have a return label, but I’ve also emailed both the eBay seller and eBay support to explain the situation. Unfortunately, it’s been over 10 days since I noticed the mix-up. I can’t help but think this whole issue could have been avoided if the seller had shipped to the correct address in the first place.
Here’s what I’d like to understand:
1. Am I wrong for not realizing the mix-up sooner?
2. Is the seller solely responsible for sending it to the wrong address?
3. What should my next steps be, especially since the return process has started but I still don’t have the eBay package?
Your advice would mean a lot as I try to resolve this fairly.
Thanks!

The seller is required to ship an item to the address provided by the buyer at checkout.
This is normally the address that the buyer has registered for their eBay account.
Unless an alternative address is provided at checkout, the correct address for delivery is the buyer's registered address as above.
Any shipping address not entered at checkout and provided subsequently is irrelevant.
I hope the the above will help to determine the address to which your seller will have been required by eBay to deliver the parcel.

Unfortunately even if the seller sent to the wrong address so you don't have the item, if you have opened a return for an item you don't have, then that's it for help from ebay.
You needed to open a case for item not received, you can't do that now.
You will have to see if your funding source will help.
