Sky Q boxes for sale

I'm seeing loads of sky Q boxes for sale on ebay.

I'm concerned as these are always "loaned" from sky and remain sky's property, as far as I'm aware sky consider any "missing" box as basically stolen!
Anyone know what ebay's position is on this ? I doubt sky would activate a box sold so there could well end up being a lot of unhappy buyers.

If you look at BT hubs, there are more than 2000 for sale, even though you are 'loaned' one for free when BT provides your internet.

Maybe people buy them to replace dodgy or broken ones.

I doubt Ebay will intervene.  The items are not stolen.

I get annoyed by all the NHS items for sale on here which have been provided 'free' to people who then sell them - hearing aid batteries are a good example but there are hundreds of other items.  Taxpayers foot the bill and then people profit by flogging their items on Ebay.  I have tried reporting hearing aid batteries (which are clearly labelled not for resale) but they are not removed.

Re: Sky Q boxes for sale

Yes I kind of thought the same, I actually suspect most are bought to replace non working but surely if they are loaned then sky should be replacing them anyway! Also I can't see sky authorising a box that's "missing in action" as they need the model s/n etc to pair the card.

I do agree that there appears to be an awful lot of stuff on ebay (and other market places) that really shouldn't be.

Anyone know what ebay's position is on this ?

eBay's "position" is that  listings are the entire responsibility of the seller. They do not review listings or their content, and warn users explicitly that they do not guarantee the existence, quality, safety or legality of items advertised, or the truth or accuracy of descriptions".

So eBay doesn't even attempt to check whether sellers own the items they are selling - or whether they even even exist. They don't allow the sale of stolen goods but it would be for the owner to report this to the police, and get a crime number. eBay will then assist the police, if requested, but no-one else.

I agree with jck11957 that it's shameful that so many people sell disability aids here that the NHS only loaned to them. Not to mention Sky boxes and similar items that the selelr doesn't legally even own. But the NHS doesn't have the recources to make a police report for every item illegally sold on eBay.

eBay chould add a general restriction onall such sales in their prohibited items policy, but there is no point in sugegesting this. eBay's policy on suggestions from users is that they don't accept suggestions from users!

I'm afraid that we have to accept that eBay is what it has always been: a jungle.

Re: Sky Q boxes for sale

Absolutely anyone selling NHS items is the lowest, and tbh if you're buying NHS items in addition to having no morals at all you're also buying back something you've already paid for through taxes and national insurance (assuming your paying it) !

Anyway I suppose the phrase Buyer beware applies more than ever.
