Simple delivery of Gold jewellery

I will not send Gold Jewellery or expensive coins via simple delivery as the service is not to the requirement of Royal Mail .

Re: Simple delivery of Gold jewellery

Royal Mail does suggest they insist that Gold & Silver items must be sent via Special delivery.  Therefore why are eBay insisting we send via just a cheap tracked service ? I’ve had so many precious metal items stolen in the postal system when not sent via Special delivery. When I list a piece of Gold jewellery it doesn’t allow me to add this service it only allows simple delivery. Therefore I won’t use it.

Re: Simple delivery of Gold jewellery

Morning Kat

There have been a few posts about this.

Jewellery listed for over £20, including gold, silver, precious stones etc. now has to be sent with Simple Delivery which overrides the seller's postage choices.  This happened about 2-3 weeks ago, previously all jewellery was exempt from SD.

However, Ebay still say that valuables (gold etc.) cannot be posted with Simple Delivery.

So, jewellery sellers HAVE to use Simple Delivery but items sent are not covered?

Can you please check and clarify?

Thank you.

Valuables etc. are here, under 'restricted or prohibited items'

Re: Simple delivery of Gold jewellery

Hi All,

Providing an update that we are currently having this looked into by shipping and the tech team. In the meantime if sellers send such items with Simple Delivery as that was the option that was given to them then the transaction will be protected by eBay.

Thank you,

Kat

Re: Simple delivery of Gold jewellery

Very vague and eBay T&Cs need to be updated, also communications need to be sent out as it states not to send Gold or Silver via simple delivery yet that’s the only option offered when using eBay for many of us. Personally having used Royal Mail for years I wouldn’t send precious metals especially an expensive piece of Gold jewellery via just a tracked service as I have had to many items stolen. This is why Royal Mail stipulate that they must be sent via Special Delivery.
Very confusing and unsettling . I know lots and lots of long served ebayers who are no longer selling jewellery on eBay because of this low level postage service putting ite,s at risk.

Re: Simple delivery of Gold jewellery

Best workaround is to offer free postage (factor the RM Special delivery cost into your asking price) and then send it out yourself. Add the tracking number to the order and claim back the cost of the Simple Delivery label.

eBay's guidance:

If you don't use the Simple Delivery label provided, you or your buyer will be refunded, depending on who paid for postage.

  • If you selected 'Buyer pays’ when you created the listing, your buyer will automatically be refunded for any Simple Delivery label that isn’t used after 30 days
  • If you selected ‘Seller pays’ and offered free postage on your listing, you'll need to fill out the Request a refund for Simple Delivery form (link below) for the label that wasn’t used. Make sure to send your request within 14 days of your item selling.

To process your refund, we'll verify the following:

    • The label was paid for by you (you offered free shipping to the buyer).
    • The refund request is created within 14 days from the item's sale.
    • The label wasn't used within 14 days of the item's sale.
    • The package was delivered using a different tracking number.

If your request meets all these conditions, you'll receive a refund for the shipping cost.

Re: Simple delivery of Gold jewellery

You would also think this would have some importance or eBay knew their own processes as why the long wait for clarification ?

I myself won’t sell gold \ silver jewellery or coins anymore now that you have taken the ability to use special delivery away from sellers.

Re: Simple delivery of Gold jewellery

Too confusing and to hard to track what has and hasn’t been refunded. I wanted to list 50-100 Gold jewellery pieces ready for Xmas but I won’t without the ability to pick my special delivery postage.
I’m well experienced in using Royal Mail and in the early days too many items got stolen using just a tracked delivery service. As I say Royal Mail stipulate precious metals MUST be sent via Special Delivery.

You're a bit stuck then. Simple Delivery is mandatory for private sellers, there isn't another workaround to use RM Special Delivery.

Re: Simple delivery of Gold jewellery

With that many gold jewellery items have you looked at the requirement for an ebay business account?

Business accounts don't have simple delivery and are for people who buy to sell.

I’m selling my own collection,  I’m not a business buying in items to sell.
