I find this service not user-friendly. I cannot find how to take my package to the local Evri drop-off point. Instead of having received confirmation of the sale, I am told I have to wait for collection, which means I may have to stay in all day to wait for it to be collected. It seems like another way for eBay to make money along with the mandatory buyer protection

I only use try to sell items that are exempt from not so simple delivery, so have no experience of using it, but understand you do not have to use Evri and their unreliable service. 
I would suggest opting for Royal Mail, and taking to Post Office, if practical. 

As you say waiting in all day for a collection which does not happen is very annoying.
