Vehicles cannot be paid through eBay, only cash/bank transfers are accepted payment methods.

There is no buyer or seller protection for vehicles.

Only cash is safe for you and the buyer.   You don't want to risk later chargebacks.

Thank you I thought this might be the case, but have a potential buyer who insists that he buys cars all the time and always pays through ebay 🤔

It's just not possible he has previously paid for motors via eBay checkout, there are no online payment methods on the UK site, it is possible on US site but i doubt hes buying a vehicle from there.

Ok I believe you are correct as I have tried numerous times to change this but each time only given the option to accept cash on collection or bank transfer if they prefer,  do you think this may be some kind of scam,  I sell lots of items on ebay but never sold a vehicle before so is all a little alien to me

Sounds like he's up to no good.   Cash or nothing.

That is 100% impossible.

A buyer who claims to buy "lots of cars" is probably buying them to do up and resell. This means he will probably be looking for faults to haggle the price down. You don't have to agree to this.

Or he may try to get your address "for inspection" before bidding, and then try to talk you into selling it priavetly to evade paying eBay's selling fee. This isn't allowed and even trying to provide your address would get you an auto-generated warnng from eBay.

If he wins and doesn't pay within 4 days you can cancel the sale for non-payment. Your selling fee (but not listing fee) would be cancelled and the buyer would receive an unpaid item strike. He would also be blocked from leaving you any feedback.

Yes I believe it could be. Paying through ebay checkout gives the buyer the benefit of ebay's MBG. If you think about it they could cause all sorts of havoc by not even trying.
