Seller informed me item is not available but eBay informs me there is a problem with refund

hello. I purchased an item, some days later the seller informed me that the item is not available but I had paid (Paypal) and money was taken. They initiated a cancellation with eBay and that took 5 days and then eBay informed me that there was a problem with the refund and the cancellation failed, now I am in a loop and waiting for 10 June when I can choose 'Item has not arrived'. There is no option to deal with this particular issue and I am concerned that I will now be stuck dealing with this for weeks or months. It was a large sum of money. Thank you.

If the cancellation failed you will have to wait for the estimated delivery date before starting a "not received" case.   You escalate it to ebay after another 3 days and you will get a full refund.

So when the time comes select "Report an item you didn't receive" on here:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/buying/returns-items-not-received-refunds-buyers/get-help-item-hasnt-arr...
and escalate it 3 complete working days later.

Thank you, yes I am aware of this but it's actually 10 days before I can escalate this formally. Is this likely a dishonest seller then? Is this a tactic to avoid paying a refund for an item you don't have anymore, I have never experienced this before on eBay, normally a mistake is corrected and the seller refunds.

**peaseblossom** has explained eBay's timelines for money back guarantee cases. This timeline is fixed and invariable. It's not within the seller's control any more than it is within yours.

What seems to me to be very wrong in this case is that eBay didn't sort out the failed cancellation, and reissue it. All refunds are made through eBay and it was up to them to action the seller's cancellation.

It isn't fair on you to make you wait for so long, or even on the seller to face an MBG case when they have apparently already initiated a cancellation and return. Asking you to open a case through eBay has also deprived you of your right to have claimed a refund through PayPal.

As you now have 10 days to wait, in your position I would be contacting customer support to ask what's going on.
