Royal Mail 2nd class post - not delivered/very long delay

I recently dispatched a parcel to West Wales which was due to be in transit/delivered around the time of the  storm Bert disruption.  The purchaser paid for 2nd class postage - didn't request a more secure method of postage.

The purchaser was in fairly regular contact about delivery etc, I provided a copy of proof of postage - he said he had been chasing his tail with Royal Mail - not too surprising.

Royal Mail's policy appears to be that they will only start to consider a case 10 working days after a reasonable delivery window.

I have raised a case with Royal Mail & forwarded details to the purchaser.

Meanwhile, the purchaser raised a case with ebay - any attempt to reply/amend that case was pretty impossible - a Royal Mail  ref number was already provided - entering the ebay order number brings up the address details on the Royal Mail website - so all linked up.  There was no new tracking info to supply.  The Royal Mail process takes up to 30 days to resolve.

Ebay have now determined the case - granting a 100% refund on retained funds.

There is only £11.05 at stake, but what happens now if the parcel turns up as a result of the Royal Mail investigation?

You should have refunded the buyer voluntarily.  If Ebay stepped in and refunded them, it counts as a defect on your account.

If the item is ultimately delivered, you can ask the buyer to pay again or return the item to you (at your expense).

You can't do anything through Ebay.  You can't send a new invoice and there is no way to reverse the refund.
