I bough an item from a seller that ebay allowed on their site to sell things. I paid £49.95 and did not receive the item and emailed the sellar but received no reply. I contacted ebay and all they did was remove the sellar for policy violations and closed the request. I am now £49.95 and no Christmas present for my mam. Ebay have done nothing to help is it worth challenging in court

Why didn't you open ebay case for item not received?
No point emailing seller.
You had 30 days to open case, so too late.
Try your payment provider.
In the future, always open ebay case within 30 days.

adding to the advice already given -
you do seem very unfortunate in your buying but leaving a neg and saying you will change it after you get a refund means the seller could get it removed.

If you bought something that didn't arrive in time for Christmas it will be too late now to do anything through eBay. You had 30 days from the latest estimated delivery date in which to open a case under eBay's money back guarantee.
So no, you haven't been robbed by eBay, you just didn't read the conditions for their money back guarantee. There is a link to this in every listing, or see: https://pages.ebay.co.uk/ebay-money-back-guarantee/
Depending upon how you paid you could try asking your payment provider, for example credit or debit card issuer, whether they can help.
