Refund Processing

A seller has offered me a refund for an item purchased in 2020 (which was covered by a 10 year guarantee) without me needing to return the item.

However, they say that they are unable to process a refund using the original payment method (PayPal).

Instead, they are asking me to email them directly with my PayPal email address or username, along with the order details. In other words, asking me to bypass the eBay messaging restrictions.

I am not happy with this option and I cannot see how to involve eBay in this case as I have not actually processed this as a return.

Any suggestions?

Refund Processing

The seller is correct. Ebay wont get involved and have no facility to deal with matters like this.

However I note from your message this quote: "Instead, they are asking me to email them directly with my PayPal email address or username" - DO NOT give them both these details as they will have access then to your paypal account. They only need the EMAIL address. Re the other order details I would just forward the order number (if you have it)

To be honest I am very surprised that a seller is doing this after 5 years since you purchased an item.

Ebay has no interest or involvement in a sale 5 years ago.

Any refund will need to be via PayPal or bank transfer and in either case you will need to give them your details.
